I can read about this until I'm blue in the face at the RX7club forum, but I want racer opinions. I pre-mix already, but I was wondering what oil ya'll use.

I know the "best" stuff comes from Japan and is expensive (can't think of the name), but is any 2-cycle oil good?

Synthetic or non? Brand? Reasoning?

I've been using Royal Puple for a few years. Seems to work well.

I guess the Idemitsu isn't as much as I remember.

jswisc, what royal purple are you using?

I use any brand name 2 cycle oil for water cooled motors, usually pennsoil.

Local engine builder that sends tons of rotaries to runoffs every year uses the cheapo wal-mart (Super Tech 2000??) brand oil, and laughs at the guys that spend stupid money on oil you're just going to burn. long as it doesn't have major impurities in it, any 2-cycle oil is good enough according to him.

I know this is gonna sound crazy. The chainsaw shop near the track sells some cool 2 stroke chainsaw oil. Thats what Drew and I were running. Buy it by the gallon and its cheaper.

HA! I always figured it didn't really matter. If I can buy it by the gallon, I'll definitely do that.

I used to use the little bottles from wal-mart. I've switched to motorcycle oil, I think Kawasaki. I can't really tell if it's any better, but the plugs don't get quite as beat up as they used to. Maybe that has to do with how much I put in. Who knows...

Any racing two stroke (i.e., rotary) will benefit from a percentage of castor bean oil added to the mixture. You can actually get it from:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/2/9/197/11618/ITEM/Maxima-Pro-Series-927-Castor-2-Stroke-Oil.aspx

for a reasonable amount of money. Best anti wear oil ever available (castor, that is) Chuck

I've read and been told that caster oil leaves a residue in the chambers that builds up over time. I've never done a tear down on an engine that runs it though.

The 100% bean oils do...however, the newer blends don't and there is a product called "de-gummed castor". CB
