MK3 Rear Strut Tower Modification

What are you guys doing when mounting rear shocks in your MK3?

The options I see right now are:

- Use poly inserts instead of the factory rubber ones (what I have been doing)
- Modify the strut tower to accept a spherical bearing (what I have been thinking)

If you have any suggestions/pictures I'd appreciate them!

Disclaimer: my MK3 is raced in NASA GTS, no ITB. It also has a 1.8T swap.

On MkIs we have used both the spherical and the poly upper rear shock mounts. I think this is one of the few places where poly bushings are Ok for a race car. I wouldn't use poly on any suspension part that rotates such as a control arm bushing. I would save the money on the rear mounts and start with the poly.

Just keep using factory rubber. It is not performing any suspension locating function.

I am using sphericals there, simply because I needed to make the 'stack' thinner due to the amount of threaded rod available on my shock shaft.

I agree completely. We installed aftermarket poly bushings and haven't touched them since.
