Is it worth lowering the final drive from a 4.235 to a 3.94? I changed to 225/45 from a 225/50 and I seem to be running out of top end. I don't hit redline in 5th but I don't expect to. I have both available. Transmission is all apart so now would be the time. Car is a VR6 Mk3. I know there are a lot of factors but

I don't have them in front of me so I was wondering if anybody knew how many notches were on the 3.94 stuff? I might have more than one set available.

Keep the 4.235. Unless you're running of top end in 5th, then move to the 3.94.

I think that your answer depends on the track(s) that you run at...

Why did you change the tire size?

See my WTB thread about tires, I posted a link to a good page to use to calculate speeds and RPMs based on gearing AND tire size.

I also posted a shift point calculator that I used and found out that we have been shifting too soon and therefore we have more RPM's to use! And this affected my gearing choice which I've based around my home track...

Do you run data?

Shorter tires accelerate faster and lower the car.
