Hey, This was taken from the GT site!! Pretty cool!!

Hi guys. Thanks for your interest in this exciting time in DIS' history!

In short, Lane Construction, our contractor took over the facility a few days after the Coke Zero 400 Weekend. No major weather problems have halted or delayed construction, and we should be two weeks away from Goodyear tire testing.

The process started with the complete removal of the former surface. That surface includes the original asphalt, some five inches of original surface layed in 1958 and two inches of layered top surface layed down in 1978. After the surface was removed, we smothed the base at the limestone layer. Some four layers of asphalt replaced what was removed with lazer assist, to tolerences never before used here.

PIT ROAD: For the first time, Pit Road has CONCRETE pit boxes. We also widened Pit Road by ten feet to promote safer blending after stops.

SKIDPADS/CHICANE: Both Turn 4 and Superstretch Skidpads will have totally been replaced by the end of the project. The pictures of the new Chicane is a contengency measure, as Andrew Booth pointed out. Should we decide to move the Bus Stop in front of the Budweiser Party Porch in the future, we have that option. The alternative chicane is made to the exact dimensions as the existing one. The original chicane exit from the early 80's has been removed.

INFIELD: SInce the new infield surface is only a few years old, no replacement was needed. The transition of the entrance has been slightly altered to promote a smother entry. As a result, infield Turn One's slight negative camber is now deeper into the corner.

We are hoping that the new surface will last the next twenty year, consistant with the original surface. North American Testing, our engineering arm of ISC is very pleased with the progress of the project. We look forward to some great competition on this surface for years to come!

Thanks,

Mark Lewis

Can't wait to drive the new track surface in feb. To say they took over the place after Zero 400 in July is an understatement. Pretty amazing to see them mobilizing before
that weekend.
