My car used to be a drag car and part of the body was cut off inside. It was extra kinda like sheet metal that held the rear seats at the correct angle. Will that be ok as long as im atleast the min. wieght?

And also the bracket that held the passanger seat in was cut out.
Im trying to figure out if the body i have now is worth restoring a bit for IT. Or i may just be better off getting a new body.

its a 1996 vw gti. i can add pics eventually if that would help.

Recommend a pic.

My take is that unless you chopped out something structural, you may be able to figure that it is associated with a component that can be removed...so you might be ok.

If not, just try and find the bit in a wrecking yard and weld it back in.

Here are the examples of what was chopped out. This is not my car but i circled in red the pieces that were cut out.

Those can come out to make room for the allowed race seat and brackets. We did it on my new (now, not-so-new) MkIII. However, I don't think you can get away with removing the passenger side one.

Those pics you link to are of my first MkIII - "Pablo I" It's not a big deal but I'd actually rather you link to them on my site so there's a trail of breadcrumbs back to where they came from.

Have fun with the build!

On this chassis maybe. If it's not even gonna be legal why continue with it? I either want a new complete body to swap all my stuff to, or find a 2liter car. I got rid of a lot of pieces on this car when I was drag racing. It really has the bare minimum.

Could you find the pieces on another car and weld back in?

FWIW you might be able to get away with the pass side bracket of you use the area for mounting safety gear - i.e. mount the extinguisher there??

I say run it.

As long as you have all the weighty stuff you aren't allowed to remove, like blower motors and all that under dash stuff. Really, so long as you meet min weight, who cares about some brackets that were once welded to the chassis? I know you aren't "allowed" to remove them, but unless you REALLY piss someone off, you wont be protested, and you wont be bounced from a random tech at impound. it's not "cheating" which would provide a competitive advantage so much as it's inverse ballast, and not much of it at that.
