Where is a good spot to mount the end of the hose to blow on the rotor? I have the fronts ok but am unsure where the best spot to mount the rest. Thanks.

Cram it down into the triangle formed by the upright, and the caliper, pointing at the center of the rotor/bearing. Safety wire in place.

Figure out the routing before cutting it, to leave enough lenght for tire clearance when turning.

turn wheels all the way left for the right duct and right for the left duct to make sure you have enough clearanc3

Here's what we use. These are fiberglass and blow into the center of the ventilated disk, and also just above the outside of the disk. Hose runs above control arm and below drive shaft. Not a lot of wasted air and hi velocity. 2.5" hose. Also blows on wheel bearing too.

Are those beauties a custom fabrication or available off the shelf somewhere?

Nice fit!

No, those are custom made

Those are really nice..
Put a price on them, and get on with paying for your racing.
The Cup ones are tig welded and cost about 80$ ea. used.

After this weekend at Blackhawk, I'll get around to making a batch of them. I can do fiberglass in most colors and carbon fiber ones for a bit more. I've sold them for $100 a pair with mounting brackets. And $50 more for Carbon fiber if anyone's interested. May take a couple weeks though, racing season's just starting here.

Send me a set, and I'll add you as a parts source in the E book.
The book is done!! waiting final editing. MM

I'll start on a couple sets this weekend

I want a set for my MK3 VR6 car. :(

loopracing

I don't know that these will fit a Mk3. They were designed for A1 steering knuckles.

karter74

They won't. that was the reason for the frowny face.

loopracing

One other note, they are specific to each side. They fit right along the steering knuckle. Refer to the above links, and maybe you can get an idea if they would fit or be modified.

Fitting the Mk 2 and 3 would make business sense. IMHO. MM

I want for MK3! There are two cars here in DC that would buy them instantly. We could even send you a spare knuckle for development.

I would be interested, I'd need a knuckle/disk/hub probably from each side. possibly the A1 mold i have may be easily modified, which could save time. Email me if interested. may take a month or so...racing season is on now.

I suppose (sigh) I could be the test monkey for the MK II if you needed someone. :eclipsee_steering:

Will these will work for the 10.1" rotors?

I'd like a set in carbon fiber please, and it would be for a scirocco II.

These should work for 10.1 disks. Give me 2 weeks or so guys, working as we type.

How about a Honda :)

Oh, I'm sure Dick could make a "special" brake duct for a Honda. :006:

I always thought that it was the disk that needed to be cooled but I just heard that it was better to cool the caliper because you lose brakes from the oil heating. Is it better to cool the disk because you cut down on the heat transferred to the caliper/oil or better to cool the caliper directly?

loopracing

It's definitely better to cool the fluid. However, there's no convenient way to do that other than getting the disk to shed as much heat as possible, thus not transferring it to the fluid.

Hey Dick - if you want some "severe duty" testing of these, let's put a set on Albin's H car.

He is always happy to try stuff out. Let me know if you like that idea and I can get them down to him.

BTW - great job this weekend. That race on Saturday was a treat to watch.

Bob did a great job battling with those guys. that's the kind of racing that keeps us coming back. Chris and Greg are great to race with anytime. Brings back the old IT days. How cool would it have been to have a CRX in that mix?
We sized up the mock-up on Chris's car and everything looks good, so I plan on having a set to bring to the Sprints. I should be able to have a couple sets too for anyone else interested.

Yeah that was just a blast to watch. Reminded me very much of IT Fest 2008.

Those that were not there - take a look in the Cat National race report thread in the prod forums to see some really good racing videos from Greg Gauper's Civic, running with Bob and Chris.

See you at the Sprints Dick.

I'm interested in getting a set for an ITC/HP 1.6 scirocco with the unvented brakes...

I got the Ducks, they are awesome! one side is installed! check is in the mail.

Man that video you sent me with the Loop racing Scirocco and Albin was watched by every racer that came in to my shop!!!! Twice! Thanks!I have seen is 10 times now.......

How important is a NACA or Thermoformed air inlet duct to feed air, Can I just cut 2 holes in my air damb? I have never had brake fade, just want more brake pad/rotor life and to cool the crappy MK1 hubs......

Once again thanks Dick!

Glad you like them Lael. I have holes in the air dam with the plastic preformed "funnels" behind it. Not necessary but sure makes for a clean and easy install. Pegasus has a nice selection and they're not very expensive. Most are 3" hose. Use the 3" hole in the air dam and neck it down for the 2.5" brake cooler hose. Pegasus has adapters or your local muffler shop can set you up for cheap.

Maybe you could post some pics or email me some, of the install.

I have the Mk2 ducts ready to go now. If anyone wants to see them, I'll have a set at the Sprints this weekend. Just look me up at the track.

Thinking about Honda ones now that Drew brought that up. I think concrete would be the best material to use now.

OK The Ducts worked very well!!!! Thats all that went well on my test day..... some how a pylon ended up on T1 at MAM, and I hit it at 80mph..... My air damn exploded.... air inlets, ducts, and hose all survived.... I pulled it off, and continued, then lost compression in one hole....I Hope its a burnt valve or bent valve.... I will know tonight.....OF course it was haulin a$$ and felt good when this happend.....I have been spending allot of time with the wife and kids.....I think its pissed off!
