Actually a decent deal for a car that could be a solid ITB base with the right engine...

too bad he doesn't have the question section made viewable by the public...

LOL... and they wonder why Florida cars have such a reputation... I think the only FL cars I've seen that haven't been horrible cheats are Kip's and the Keane brothers... ;)

Figures it's a VW. :D

Saw that awhile ago.

When you think about it, the guy must honestly believe its legal, because I doubt he would blatantly advertise that if he believed it was.

I don't know, there was that guy at the ARRC in '09! Talk about being obvious!

I remember an ITB Alfa GTV that would run with the A-Sedans on the banking at Daytona...

What guy? I must have forgotten or more likely, missed that.

This could be the perfect car to deal with those effin' cheatin' Hondas!

Jake: The car was just below the food shack, right near the Grassroots Motorsports display. The car was on a trailer on the right side going down to the paddock, and there were flyers available. I'll still have one, so I'll look it up, but it was discussed on this form in November. :p

(In my best hill-billy drawl)

Hell-yeah, then I'm going to proceed to open a 55 gallon drum of 'whup-ass :p

Seriously, though I think I'll stick with the bimmer Z.

So, I figured a little fun at his expense couldn't hurt. I mean, the stuff is so blatant, how could you race in IT and NOT know its cheating? My question on the bottom...

Here's the exchange...

Mr. ita57,

Im not really sure what your gripe seems to be with me or my car. But what I do know is Im not asking you or begging you to bid on it. Maybe you should seek help for your anger issues. Have a great day.

Dear ridemx73,

i hope you can tell the prospective buyer that the car is a cheating SOB for Improved Touring....

Seems it didn't sell... yet.

Notice the lack of the ever-controversial washer bottle. Or more significantly the lack of the front turn signals. Certainly minor details, but more evidence the rule book was ignored during prep.

So does a logbook make this car "ITA certified"?

Logbook just indicates that at the last annual inspection or after significant damage was recorded, that the vehicle was safe to race. Annuals do not check for compliance to specific class or car rules (IIRR).

I would like to see when the book was issued and by whom. Could be fun.

Scrutineers issue logbooks based on proper safety items, not prep rules compliance...

I was just poking fun since the car was listed as "ITA certified". Maybe it's on par with some of the "certified used cars" you see. Yup, it's used, here's a certificut...

On the original issue it must meet all the class rules to be given a book. I agree it could have been changed later. Issued a book this morning so it is not my first day.

"...must meet all the class rules..."? Sooo....you checked the cams, displacement, compression ratio, gear ratios, etc...? You would have caught this cheating car during its logbook issuance (assuming it was this way prior to getting a logbook)?

;)

I agree if something is blatantly out of spec (e.g., Lexan 'shield in an IT car) I'll note it in the logbook for correction prior to next/first event, but I've never chosen to not give an annual to a car that meets required safety specs. - GA

Spoke with the seller yesterday. He told me the head was not ported and polished, just parts were polished?? and that the special cams were from a "later model" GTI. He claimed that Alex Job Racing built the engine after he blew it up in Homestead. and that I could see the car at Alex's shop later in the week! They are testing at Sebring today and tomorrow.

IT rules allow the ports to be cleaned up 1" in from the gasket surface. Nothing else in the head should be touched.

The ITCS shows that car to be eligible as a "87-89" year, so there IS NO later GTI from which legal cams could be sourced. If they are out of the 2.0 (the '91-92 model), they are NOT OK.

Kirk

PS - If you buy it, you'll want to ditch the illegal rear spoiler, too.

And there is no difference in the cams between the 1.8 87-89 car and the 2.0 90-92 car anyhow.

There is a difference in cylinder head though.

It is common to swap in the stock European spec intake cam for gains.

edit - yeah the rear spoiler is non-functional and illegal to my eye. Looks like a Scirocco 16v deck spoiler....
