I am selling an R200 diff that was in my 260z when I got it. A buyer on ebay asked if it could go in his 83zx.
I am pretty sure it fits but are the stub axles different for the ZX?
Thanks

Qualified Yes. :) Yes, it will fit but my ZX has bolt in half shafts, just like the 240/260/280. I don't remember when they changed over to CV half shafts. There have been many debates over the length of the half shafts but If I recall correctly, there is no differences in length.
How goes the car since it was "Jeffed up?" :happy204:

There is a difference in length of the half shafts on the later ones (those that don't use the bolt flanges). It is a minimal difference & you can get them to install on the wrong sides but the lip seals don't like it.

What ratio is the diff??

3.528 or 3.692. I didn't open it to count the teeth. When I counted turns of the input shaft, my estimate came out to 3.62 which I don't believe exist so I assume it is one of these.

So does this explain why the R180 does not fit the diff carrier bar? It had an R200 when Jeff bought it. I bought Jeff's 260z and was attempting to install the diff tonight but the studs on the rear housing were about 1/4" too narrow for the bar. It appears the stud spacing on the diff is about 3 1/4" and on the bar 3 1/2". Anyone have a rear carrier bar for a 260? Or should I grind it a little for clearance and bolt it up.

99% sure we have one we can spare Ed. We just parted out our spare 240 which has the carrier bar you need. I just want to make sure we have a third bar, so we have a spare for our racecar. 280's that had the R-200's came with a different carrier bar, and people who converted 240's and 260's to the R-200 had to swap bars, so that's a 280 bar in your car.

Measured the R180 in my car and it appears the bolts are on 78mm centers.

Problem resolved. The crossbar had approx 82mm hole centers. A little work with the die grinder and it slips together like it was made for it. Continuing with the drive line install. Thanks for the offer Chris.
Cheers
