So I get the 86-88 rx7 non turbo lsd to install in the miata case. After reading on several websites that the rx8 4.44 r/p is tha same and will fit I go buy one. Well it doesn't. The 4.44 is too big and I'm wondering did I get the wrong info or the seller of the r/p give me the wrong parts. This is just one of the links to the info I was going by http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0804_turp_kia_sportage_s2000_garage_tech/index.html Can anyone confirm or deny that the rx 8 r/p fits the lsd from the 86-88 na rx7 and 94-97 miata like I've been told.

No, it does not. The ring gear is the same size as the 86-91 Turbo 2 RX7 but the pinion is shorter. Limited slip from 86-91 NA RX7 will fit the 1800 Miata rear end.

Thanks Steve. I guess it's always advisable to seek the advice of an expert before you believe something on the internet. I guess if I buy a boat I have an anchor:shrug:

86-88 is the clutch type and 89-91 is a torsen right?

All of them are clutch type. I heard they put the Torsen in some of the 91 cars but never actually saw one. The Torsen we use in the ITS cars is actually a Miata unit. I think I have one on a shelf somewhere. Keep in mind that the ring and pinion from a first gen RX7 fits the 1800 Miata case. Off the shelf gears are 4.88, 5.12, and very hard to find 4.6 and 4.44 that were old RX3 gears.

Thanks again Steve. mazdaspeed motorsports shows a 4.44 for the miata @ $480. I don't know if they still carry the gears but I was able to put it in my shoppingcart.

I think I bought the last one in July.

86-88 is clutch type. 89-91 is viscous. There were also open diffs is quite a few of them so you're no guaranteed an LSD if you buy one.
