When the Jersey Racing Board (Northern New Jersey and South Jersey regions) developed the schedules for their two summer regional races at NJMP, we realized that the Saturday schedule with qualifying sessions and qualifying races for each group was quite full but the Sunday schedule with longer 'points' races had an open block of time. Since our track contract calls for full payment regardless of whether we use the available time or not, we looked for an option to utilize the extra time. There was not enough time to hold separate on track sessions for each of the nine groups and adding the available time to the nine 'points' races would result in races a bit long for regional competition.

The approach that we decided to pursue was to have a single optional race open to most DOT tire classes (IT, SM, SS and SRF). To add interest to this feature race we adapted the pursuit race concept used in other areas of the country. The Jersey Dash for Cash is a one hour race featuring a handicapped staggered start leading to a theoretically simultaneous finish. In July, all running cars finished on the same lap.

Since the JRB has no incremental expense for the Dash for Cash, a relatively low entry price of $140 was set with half of the entry allocated to a purse for the top ten finishers. The entry is open until the close of registration on Sunday with no late entry fee and no withdrawal fee if you are unable to race. If you are interested check the box when you enter or contact Val Heun, the Registrar. We do need a minimum of 15 entries to justify keeping our volunteer staff (flaggers, timers, etc.) on duty for the extra time.

The Jersey Dash for Cash - great value, great fun
