Wife wants a new tow device. Found a Trailblazer, 4.2 EXT. It is perfect shape, 44K with the 4.2 6 cyl. engine. We tow the single axle , Miata racer at about 3400# gross. The book says towing cap. is 5500#. Can this little 6 pull my trailer at the usual 80mph??
TIA. Mike Ogren

Only 1 trip towing with a Trailblazer, but I'm going to say yes, you should be happy. My wife drives a '06 short wheelbase model. I rented a Uhaul trailer and towed home a Volvo wagon about 120 miles. Probably 3500 plus the trailer. Didn't even notice the trailer was there. Might want a trailer brake controller, however, just for peace of mind.

The one you're looking at is the LWB model, should tow even better. I love the 4.2 I6, very sweet engine. . .

Pulled my 88 Crx Si loaded with junk and a 1000-1200 lb trailer with no brakes with no problem but never did a hard stop in the rain and definitely didn't go 80. 2005 Envoy with same motor.

MUST get a trailer brake controller, however, just for Jake, and the rest of the world's peace of mind.

I hope that gets the point across accurately......

My Miata trailer has surge tongue, driving a Tilton master cyl,Chevy PU brakes. Stops pretty well all by it self. When I get the brakes adjusted right, I can hear them chirp.
Passed on the EXT. The power was OK, but all black leather guts and ex smoker made it more that I'd care to make payments on.
Thanks for your input. I will keep an eye out for the EXT with either the 4.2 or 5.3 down the road. Gas goes up , they go down etc. MM
