The 09' GCR should be coming out in a few months. I am waiting on a decision on the classification of the 91' FP civic si.

as of the 08' GCR... I didn't look into all the fasttracks.

an 87-89 golf GTI is L2 in EP

an 85-89 golf 1.8L is L1 in FP

Anyone run a VW in production? How competitive is it against the others? Thanks
James

Mark Megliola runs a FP VW here in New England. I will PM his email.

The 8v is in F, the 16v is in E. I don't think it has a shot in E, but it does in F. However with the same throttle body and valve size the smaller engined A1 cars at lighter weights may be a better choice.

If I go to prod it would be 8v Golf in F Prod, but I expect Mathis' A1 to be the best shot at winning.

Keep in mind, that an IT prepped car is closer prepped to the L2 or Limited Prep specifications.

When I converted my VW A1 GTI from ITB to GP, I was able to go with a hotter cam, different pistons to get to 12:1 compression, and run on slicks. I moved the battery to the passenger area, and installed a fuel cell and fire system.

Now, you can get by with out going with the fuel cell, if it meets certain specs.

I ran the same suspension and tranny, so it was a cost effective "upgrade" for the ability to run Nationals. Is it competitive? That all depends upon what you consider competitive. I still am racing against my self, and the track, along with others in my run group and class.

Keep in mind that a truely fully prepared L2 car won't be much cheaper than an L1 car. To do it right you still touch just about everything in the motor, you just have limitations on how far you can go.

So - custom forged pistons, but limited to spec CR
custom ground cam, but limited to spec lift
lightened and balanced crank either way
etc. etc.

It is cheaper to take an IT car and go production racing than to build a competitive L1 car...., or than to build a competitive L2 car.

What decision is being made about the 91' civic Si in F Prod. I thought it was classified both as a level 1 and 2 car for 08 aleady.
