I am having trouble interpreting the ECU rule for ITCS. On GCR page 331 the rule states" Engine Management computer mat be altered or replaced". On page 334 the rule states " Engine Management Computer may be altered provided all mods are done within original housing". Does this mean we must stick with OEM ECU and can only replace it with another OEM ECU and/or only have the OEM ECU reprogrammed if no vendor makes an ECU that fits in the stock housing??? I am running a Ford Escort GT ( Mazada 1.8 BP ) engine, 1991-1995.

The rules were changed for 2008. Effectively, ECUs are now free.

No, he has the latest GCR. But the bit on page 334 (bullet "s") was mistakenly left into the published GCR. It was removed in one of the recent Fastracks.

From my understanding computers are open however you are not allowed to add sensors only replace them. Meanign if yoru car didn't comw witha lamda (wide band) sensor. then yo ucan't run it. However you can replace and add map and tp seonsors. You can also use the wide band to Tuen.. just when it shows up on the track it can't be used.

Thanks, that clears that up. Now I just have to find a vendor for this engine.
