Nations Largest Truckload Carrier Becomes Most Energy-Efficient Fleet http://drive55.org/templates/rt_colormatic/images/printButton.png (http://drive55.org/index2.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=47&pop=1&page=0&Itemid=25) http://drive55.org/templates/rt_colormatic/images/emailButton.png (http://drive55.org/index2.php?option=com_content&task=emailform&id=47&itemid=25) Aggressive equipment specifications, innovative training and lower truck speeds drive companys industry-leading sustainability program

GREEN BAY, Wis., and WASHINGTON, D.C. May 8, 2008 Schneider National, Inc (http://www.schneider.com/news/FINAL_Schneider_Sustainability_News_Release_050808 .html)., a premier provider of transportation, intermodal and logistics services and the nations largest truckload carrier, announced today its plans to operate the most energy-efficient fleet in the industry. The effort, which builds upon the companys 30-year track record of environmental stewardship, was announced at a news conference today in Washington, D.C., as the American Trucking Associations unveiled its strategies for minimizing the carbon footprint of the trucking industry.

According to Lofgren, Schneider will expand its fuel conservation efforts starting immediately when it voluntarily slows down its fleet to 60 mph.

This slowdown is made possible by a group of more than 10,600 highly committed and professional drivers who are willing to do the right things to serve the customer and the environment, continued Lofgren.

The environmental impact of just a three-mile-per-hour reduction is significant: The effort will reduce the fleets consumption of diesel fuel by more than 3.75 million gallons per year and reduce truck CO2 emissions by 83.25 million pounds per year the equivalent of taking 7,259 cars off the nations highways.

As a side note from David observe the J.B. HUNT semi trucks speed on the highways. They are not speed crazy as many truckers are. I presume they also are taking part in conserving fuel.

You know, I've been waiting for our Congress to step up with this argument again. When the discussions were around to raise the limit, a lot of people bitched about 55mph was for fuel savings and we shouldn't change it. Where are these people now? Certainly some of the opposed are still in DC.

55mph = revenue generation for local jurisdictions
70mph = revenue generation for state and federal gov't

Enlighten your representatives to this fact and laws will remain the same.

Congress!!!!!!!!!! Don't get me started on these ego maniacs expecially Murtha from PA! These people, and I use the term loosely, couldn't agree how to tie their shoes without taking 3 months of debate! Our founding fathers, Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Franklin and the like are probably rolling over in their tombs watching these ...... blow our paid taxes on the most ridiuculous pork fed bills & their expense accounts! Most of these people are prime examples why some animals eat their young! God! I do miss George Carlin. This pretty much goes for the Senate too! None of these people have addressed how 14 million Americans are going to afford to heat their homes with heating oil this coming winter and the prices keep climbing due to low suphur emission standards. "Were trying to take care of the earth!!!!!!!! We can't even take care of ourselves". George Carlin
