Been perusing the POG thread for too long.

My 84 GTI JH engine is still stock, untouched inside (AFAIK).

Will higher octane fuels help much at all? My understanding is that the Leaded fuels (110, 112, etc.) will NOT.

Found an easy, slightly cheaper source of 100UL and just wondered whether to start using or mixing with it.

Thanks! :smilie_pokal:

Not worth it for your motor. It is less than 8.5:1 compression ratio if it is stock. You could probably race with 87 and be fine. The only reason I can come up with, is if you have a problem passing fuel tech with pump gas.

You might be able to advance the ignition timing a bit more with 93 or 100LL than you normally would and scare up a couple of ponys. I don't know enough about your car to know if that is beneficial or not though, depends on many factors.

Running 93 and more timing is good for your motor. Probably someing in the low-mid 30s.

Thanks guys. You've confirmed my uneducated guesses!

Chris, I am running 32-34 I believe, but had better check it before the first race, eh?

Thanks again!
