Hello, I was wondering if anybody is towing with 4.7 liter1st generation Tundra. I will be pulling around 4000lbs. Total. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

I had a 2007 Tundra and it was a great truck. I used it to tow about 3,200lbs ONCE. After that back to a dually. The truck was all over the road and terribly underpowered on hills. It might just be because I am used to hauling with a diesel.

A buddy of mine tows all over the country with his Tundra towing an enclosed 24ft trailer! He has a weight distributing hitch and anti-sway and has no problems. 4000lbs is nothing for a decent sized truck.

I'm sure you'll be fine. I tow a loaded 20ft enclosed all over with a gas standard cab 2004 Hertiage F150. I'm probably pulling between 5000-6000 lbs total, car weighs 2600lbs. I have helper air bag springs as my only modification and it works great. It'd not work nearly as good if my trailer brakes didn't work.

Yes, I know the trailer is there, but it is safe, reliable, and I've had no troubles thus far - knock on wood.

Matt,
Is it an auto or standard? They having different towing capacities. The V8 auto is rated for 7,200 lbs. I had a 2000 Tundra (V8 auto) and the biggest issue I had towing my car (2,500 lbs) and a full deck wood trailer was forgetting it was there.

That is reassuring. It is an auto with towing package. Matt

Matt,
.... the biggest issue I had towing my car (2,500 lbs) and a full deck wood trailer was forgetting it was there.

That's cuz when it got dark out, you couldn't see it! (no lights...;) )

make sure the trailer has good operational brakes....

Matt, I currently tow with a 2004 4.7 Tundra with auto and tow package. With car, open deck steel trailer and track junk I am towing around 5,000 lbs. No problem at all. Be sure to turn off the overdrive on your auto trans when towing.

We went to Hartford the other night and I was thinking about you as we left the parking booth. Odd how they decided to put it at a slight angle on the platform. :p (Just harassing Jake with an inside towing joke.)

I have a 2006 Auto 4.7 2WD Double Cab with tow package and have towed three times with it (approx. 3750 lbs w/trailer). No problems at all, as posted before I forgot it was there.
