Anybody using the 5 speeds on the ITC cars? With the available R&P gear sets of even custom gears, is it even possible to use 5th gear like at Lime Rock?

How useable are the 4 speeds in the ITC cars? With the AVX R&P, do the 1.6 get to rev near their power peak in 4th at many tracks?

Thanks

building a car with a 4 speed (maybe 5 speed)

Joe, I have been using a 4 speed with a 3.89 final IIRC. It works quite well at Nelson's with the high speed we run there. Right before the kink in the back straight my 1.6 is turning around 5500. The original 5 speed we had in the car has a similar gearing but a 3.67 final drive. It made a difference of about 500 rpm less & around 2 seconds a lap slower.

I ran a 4 speed box with a 3.89 ring and pinion and .97 4th gear. The legal 5 speed has a .75 5th that is useless and wieghs 20 pounds more. Run the 4 speed.

Joe, with 20x8x13 slicks, and my close ratio GTI box, I only use 3-4-5 at all 3 tracks.

I would imagine that with DOT tires, that a 4.88 R&P would make the 5 speed a viable options.

Great information, wow, 4.66 R&P, that would make 4th and 5th useable.

However, the 4 speed with the 3.89 sounds perfect for my purposes, and 15 to 20 lbs less weight on the left front end is a perfect bonus.
