How To Torque Strut Insert Rod Nuts

Even though the intructions for installing the Tokico struts said in big bold letters DO NOT USE AN IMPACT WRENCH I still had to but I set it low and tested the setting on a similar size nut with a torgue wrench. It was not easy to consistantly get the 38-42# they wanted and I still don't feel good about it.

I'm thinking of making some soft jaws for Vise-Grips out of Al bar stock by boring a hole and then bisecting it with the bandsaw. I could grab the rod and torque the nuts.

Or I could do whatever sounds like the best idea you guys have.

Tough task; ever consider a strap wrench to hold the rod?

The other thing I noticed is if you chase each of the threaded rod and nut with a tap and die, they go on much easier and if double nutted, they do not need to be reefed on. This is especially true if you are using camber rplates with a spherical pillow. I beleive that it is the rubber in the stock top mount that causes torque grief (and the need for high torque).
