Thought folks looking for a "winter fix" in the Tri-State Area might like to know about this new facility in Mount Kisco, NY. 15 miles from home - Now we're talikn'

Looks like a great place. Business model looks like a winner, a little pricey, but the demographics of the area should support it.

We had an indoor track in Columbus until the landlord sold the building to Wal-Mart. Now we have to go to an outdoor track in Indiana, about two hours away.

Trouble with the place in Columbus was it was not set up to really cater to the corporate groups that could be the bread and butter. Also, they could not make up their minds if they were a race track with a bar, or a bar with a race track.

Can't wait to get back upstate. Wait a minute, Skybus just announced flights to Stewart Field in Newburg. Let's see, fly out early evening, race that night, stay with friends 15 minutes from Newburg, and catch the morning flight back - airfare = $45 round trip! Or wait until January and pick up tickets both ways for $10 each way!

I zip up the Taconic from White Plains to home....I think I will have to start using 684 with a 'pit stop' along the way!

Tim,

We have a bunch of guys planning to go over in February to check it out. I run a winter league at ON-Track in Wallingford and a bunch of the "Top" runners are interested in going. If you are interested, I will let you know when and you can join us on the trek to the latest indoor racing facility.

Jay - Absolutely. There are also several racers from Meccanic Shop North that are looking to head out. Maybe we should think about renting the track for a specified period of time. I think I could have as many as 7 racers. I will PM my phone number to you.

Nice.

I will post something when we have a date. From what I heard, they are open now, but only for corporate events and they are booked until Feb (public open date Tim listed) with the corporate stuff.

Hey there.....new to this thread. I also know some of the "top runners" @ On-Track (Ralph, ACE 21, Doons, etc) and was there for the Ironman tonight. Yes, we are talking about filling the field with On-Trackers so I called today about track rental prices.....

....$2200 for an hour Max 14 people
$1650 for 3/4 hour
$1100 for 1/2 hour

A bit pricey compared to Wallingford but I'm sure we will try them out.....Timing was going in this weekend, glass being installed soon, and first event on Thursday. Arrive & Drive starts Feb 1st.

I just left all those guys (Ralph, Jeff18, Doons, etc) got home 12:30am.... They are all in for a run down to the new track with us.

Our conversation was where we thought it better to do arrive and drive rather than rent the track because of the limited amount of time the rental would cover (1-hour). Either way, I think it would be killer if we show up with a huge number or guys, especially a bunch of racers (either Kart guys or us car guys) and just tear it up.

Lets target a date and let everyone know when. Then call the track and let them know 35+ guys are showing up ready to ROCK!!!!

Tim,

I got your PM, I will call you over the weekend.

I am going to the NER meeting tomorrow (yikes its today) and will have some drive time, so I will try during the ride back.

Right...........it's not worth renting because of the price. I'll probably end up going down on the 3rd regardless of any plans made by the "On-Track" guy's, unless of course that's the day everyone decides to go....

I am waiting for Skybus to release the next block of tickets. Then we'll fly from Columbus, OH to Newburg, NY. I have arranged for friends in Tillson to drive over to Mt. Kisko. Round trip airfare will be like $20 each! Our group includes Don Sesslar, two time National Champion, former member of the Road Racing Drivers Club, and recipiant of the President's Cup. He still wups up on us regularly!.

New opening date moved to Febuary 12th....:mad1: Will they ever open?

RacerBill

My understanding is that they have had a bunch of private parties (kart testing????) and that may have pushed back the finishing date.

Or they might just be waiting for Skybus to release the next block of tickets for the Columbus OH racers!!!!

Hey Dave - I've done the Velocity 17 track several times - we go around 10PM on Friday nights - it's damn good racing and the facility is brand new. Bring your own helmet so you don't have to wear the lunch lady cap.

It is absolutely skill building

Just cam back form GPNY and had a great morning. The facility will be "the monkey's balls" when it's finished. In the meantime I recommend a visit. The most important part of the facility is up and running - the track(s). We ran the Uptown track - I beleive 12 turns and a corkscrew elevation change - Major fun. The concession it not finished yet so bring a cooler.

Shane had a couple of "hot shoes" with him and they seemed to be getting around pretty well - Needless to say they gave me a lesson.

A total blast - If anyone is organizing an outing, please keep me in mind - I not live close to GPNY but I am an easy "back marker."

Shane - thanks forthe invite.

I Just got a call - Shane broke the track record after I left - Way to go Shane.

Nice meeting ya Tim! Yeah, what fun that track is.... :023: Definitely better than On-Track but that is not to say the Wallingford track isn't a blast, and cheaper to boot! If GPNY ever decides to offer discounted race packages that's where my money will go, but right now it's twice as expensive as what I pay at On-Track. But still...I will be back.

Yes, we left there thinking Shane had the track record (just pipping me by .063) but when I got home I was looking over the print outs and actually I have the record from the third race we did. Shane - 28.332 (4th race)
Me - 28.310 (3rd race)

Walking in the record was a 28.591

I'll have to check this with Shane but it's seems a little screwey cuz even the timing board had him as the record holder.

No matter really as the times will surely fall as the track rubbers in some more...

Here's a link to some photo's I took, not the best but you will get an idea. And a link to a video on Youtube...

Also --- races where 9 minutes long but it really felt longer than that. We were getting 17 laps in....

Tim,

Jeff beat me to it!!! You are #1 in my book. :smilie_pokal:

Just remember if you can keep up with them in the corners, you are at a disadvantage on the straights. That is what I tell my self all the time at ON-Track... :D Them dang hair-pin turns

My buddy Jeff has run 35.0++ something almost broke 34+ recently, he is 75lbs less than me. Bast**d... Get these 100+ lbs guys to carry some "ballast" LOL... I am waiting for the Kart tracks to equalize the Karts with ballast so it is an even playing field, then we will see...

Are they running the 9hp or 6hp Karts there???

Tim,

6hp.....but they are the same karts as the superkarts at Wallingford. They claim 9hp karts are no faster. Could be true as at On-Track I've seen "Phonman" pull 35.8's with the 6hp karts. They do say they have some (or one) dual engine kart(s) that are reserved for VIP/Investors only, 12hp, but that even those are marginably quicker... Supposively they lift the front wheels off the top of the climbs/start of decline sections..

Also forgot to mention that the karts are remotely electronically controlled during cautions or if you happen to be deemed to have been driving aggressively. They just slow you down..... That said, they do let you race pretty hard.

And there is a warm up lap so bunch up (karts will be sputtering) coming to the flag.

And - if you go as a group or whatever, you are gridded by when you sign up for a particular race. You sign up first - your in the first car and so on..

Driver weight 270# - I told Shane, "put Carol in the kart with him and then let's have a go at it" - He laughed and said, "I'll see YOU at NHMS fat man" - No excuses.
Just what I need, another Crazy Joe, with attitude:rolleyes:

Joe - It's pretty simple - I took the spare tire that I keep in the TEG for minimum # and put in on my waist for maximum belt holes.:( Truth be told, work is slower than I like, so that I went back to the gym last week - No more "Pinks" re-runs for me, it's Ellipticals, Cruches and Steam for timmah- Oh well.

Richie won't have toruble making weight - he purchased my escort "Wide Load" service, complete with flashing lights, CB radios, and GPS systems, for the front and rear runners.

It's time to come out of the cave.

the biggest difference between the 9 and 6 hp is the 9 hp have a little more torque out of the corners. They are probably good for 1/2 a sec. better lap times for a good driver. It all comes down to being smooth.

You do not need to bring anything except gloves and shoes if you prefer them - suits, helmets, balacava, and neck brace are provided.

When are you going?

Took the boys to the track yesterday - Learned a couple of "tricks" yesterday. The "fat man" chaulked up a 29.62 - Not bad for 270# - Improved my previous time by 1.01 seconds.

Seat mobile front to back - lean opposite the turn. - gives good front bite.
