Can anybody tell me from their experience, who builds the strongest LEGAL motor for an '88-'91 CRX SI in ITA? It'd be nice if you could give info on the useable torque band (i.e 4,500 - 6,700 rpm), approx. life in hours between rebuilds etc. Given that these are pretty much stock motors, I'd expect the life span to relate to the quality of parts / assembly technique - am I wrong here?

Thanks in advance,

Martin

I've been quite pleased with my OPM built engine. Very good output and no issues at all over the last 2 seasons. How long it will last will be somewhat dependent upon RPM and maintenance schedule. I'd imagine that you'd probably want to freshen the head every few years or re-dyno to verify there'd been no drop off in power.

King Motorsports makes very good Honda CRX motors.

King Motorsports!!

You can't argue with Track Records at Mid-Ohio (Pro-Course, Club Course), Road Atlanta, Waterford Hills, Blackhawk Farms, Gingerman, a few California tracks...

Joe,

you are being modest! the motors are good but your cars are well prepared in all areas as well as being well driven.

but i won't argue that King does fine work.

Thanks for the info. I've been running a Blaney motor, and am wondering if I'm leaving anything on the table from a mid-range torque and high end (6500 rpm) hp point of view. Tom has been great with support, and his motor has been as strong as all but one of the cars I run against. I'll contact those listed above. Anyone I'm missing (no mention of Sunbelt above)?

Thanks,

Martin

Back 4 or 5 years ago when I built my engine I used Sunbelt, they built one of the best engines on the market and you paid top $ for them, not sure these days how good they are, I know OPM still does a great job also David Boles in Melbourne FL build great engines, he built the engine on Alex Muresan ARRC winning Integra also Muresan old CRX that finished 2nd at the ARRC for couple years.

You can reach David Boles at (321) 254-1344

Where are you located and what engine builder did the engine in the car you think you are down on power too?

Andy,

I'm located near Vancouver BC in Canada, but haven't let that stop me from shopping anywhere in the US, even before the canuck-buck strengthened. The one motor I referred to that can pull me is built by a local who sometimes posts as Fastest12 on this board. He builds motors under the name Stormtech, and has had considerable success on the West Coast in ITA and ICSCC F/P. He has "owned" our local track as far as fast laps go, but IMHO some of his motor building techniques (or at least his claims) push the edges of the ruleset.

Thanks,

Martin

what types of claims and what have you done with your suspension?

most of my improvements are always related to suspension and not motor.

tom, who is also looking at motor builders cause i am running out of suspension ideas.
