A friend just sent me the link to the auction...

Quick question for everyone... Would it be legal to equip that car with an 8V and run it in ITB? Do the rules allow for that specific year to be run as a B car even though it's now equipped with a 16V? I can't remember whether there were 88 8V's or not...

I'm asking because we may be interested in the car for a friend, but probably don't want to be in ITA with it.

If the vin number says it's a 16v then it belongs in ITA with the 16v motor according to the current rule set.

use a dash from an 8 valve and then you will have the correct VIN.

<fingerscrossed> With some luck, we might get to stop worrying about this stoopid rule. </fingerscrossed>

Looks like it needs a rain tray before it is legal for scca also. Easy fix for a nice car though :birra:

AFAIK, there's nothing in the VIN# to 'decode' to a 16v over an 8v, in a Mk II Golf. The only thing that I know that 'decodes', is a 1.5/6/6 and a 1.8 in a Mk I (Rabbit).
