...and I was told by the supplier (safe-quip.com) that the nets he has is stock do not meet the new SCCA regulations. He said that the new ones are "thicker". Has anyone heard of anything? If so, what is the new spec?

Nets just need an SFI 27.1 tag. While they're 'dated', the dates don't mean anything.

If the ones he's got are SFI 27.1 compliant, you should tell the guy that you'll take a few of those 'non-SCCA-compliant' nets off his hands for 75% off, so he's not stuck with unsellable inventory.

I just searched all of the Fastracks for this year, and there have been no updates to the published rule, which reads:

9.3.52. WINDOW SAFETY NETS
Window safety nets shall be used on the driver’s side window of all
closed cars. All window nets shall meet SFI Specification 27.1., and shall
bear an “SFI Spec 27.1., Label” to that effect. (Note: Window nets need
not be dated.) The window net shall be equipped with a quick-release
device and when released it shall fall down, thus not having to be flipped
up on the roof. Nets shall be attached to the roll cage; plastic buckles,
cable ties, hose clamps, and elastic cords are not permitted. Holes in
the rollcage to accommodate either support rod is unacceptable unless
bushed and welded completely. Refer to Figure 7, “Proper Window Net
Installation,” for additional information on mounting methods. Closed
cockpit sports racers may use arm restraints in lieu of a window net.

What's new for '07 is the mounting (they have to fall down), but the net rules have been the same for a while and nothing has been published in fastrack to indicate that they will change for '08.

[/b] They're not 27.1 compliant... his ribbon style nets are 27.1 and are advertised as such, but the mesh nets are not.
