View Full Version : ARRC Travel, Parking

This is an initial call for all Northeast folks heading out Road Atlanta in November for the annual ARRC bash. As before, we'd like to get a headcount of who's going and what you're driving, so that we can present that information in advance to the ARRC organizers. They will work to get us all paddocked together in one common area (the same parking format as last year).

So, if you're planning on going - even if you only THINK you might be going - post here the following information:

Name
Car type and class
Tow vehicle make and model
Trailer make, model, and size - Note all open trailers will have to be stowed away from the paddock "down the hill."

As always, travel costs are a concern. With fuel prices the way they are anything we can do to reduce costs is appreciated; if we can consolidate travel plans in order to reduce costs, so much the better. For example, do you have a truck capable of pulling more than a single-car trailer? Do you have access to a multi-car trailer, open or closed? If the former, would you be interested in pulling a multi-car trailer? If the latter, are you willing to let someone borrow it? And finally, for getting down there I have a 15-passenger van and can carry extra passengers.

Once again I'll be the central depository for all this info, and I can coordinate any kind of ride-sharing. If you have specific question feel free to post here, or feel free to email (grega -at- pobox -dot- com) or PM me directly. - GA

Jeremy - The quad gives it plenty of length - but I thought he trialer was supposed to sway back and forth - No???? I found that if go at least 80 mph you don't notice the swagger.

My bigger issue is the weight - the whole kit and kapoddle weighs 19,500# - that's a lot of bacon Jeremy for that Hemi. Is there a diesel in my future???? Caaarroooool.

In the "would love to go" mode as of now... Would need to at least split the fuel costs and an oil change in Stephens truck... Not sure he would let me take the truck, the trailer and HIS race car but it would be worth asking is someone is seriose about splitting the costs... Fuel to/from Ohio was almoast $1,000 I think for the 28,000lb rig.... that was 12 hours, not 18hrs.

MO is 1500 miles round trip from Portland, NH. At 9mpg/$3 per gallon, that is around $500 in fuel.

We are thinking about farming out the toter and 5-car stacker.

Andy - As I mentioned before - keep me in mind for a spot on the stacker. I would much less reliant on the "Moon and the Stars", if I could fly down and meet the car. I wish I could get 9 mpg. - I barely get that without the trailer on the back.

Why is that Dave?[/b]

Not enough time, money, or motivation right now. I’m not quite sure in which order. The car build this past year took a lot out of me.

After my incident at Mid Ohio, I should have inspected the car much more throughly. Matt Kessler had the car on the lift the night before the NARRC and showed me how the driver’s side suspension arm (not sure what the bar is called) was bent and twisted. We put the rear toe back to where it should be but after complaining how the rear felt really darty at LRP, Matt just said “well duh, you need to replace that!” There are a bunch of other relatively minor issues I also need to resolve / improve as well and put together, it's too much for me right now.

Andy - Not sure if I am reading the NARRC points summary correctly but it appears there were "bumps in the road (track)" at Pocono, NHIS, and LRP . Maybe that was planned as to not attract too much attention????? ;)

Nope...I swing for the fence everytime out there! Take a closer look at Pocono...

Bottom line? It was a great year, rain and all... Without that rain - look out!!! But you take it how it comes - strengths and weeknesses both. It's racin'!

Sad update....

My parents house, on the market since June, has sold, and the closing is just after the ARRCs...and it's been occupied by them essentially for 50 yrs.So I have my hands full...a lot of work for one person. Since the ARRCs are such a time consuming event, (5days, essentially) and work is piling up as well, I'm going to...sob, have to pass.

I will, I think, fly down to watch.

In some ways, thats better, as I can WATCH the ITA race, as opposed to being in it, in the IT7 class.

Anyone want to toss me on their crew list?

...can I keep my truck hooked up to my trailer or parked in the towing position during the stay?[/b]
Yes.

We will be given the ends of two whole rows from which to work (look at this map - http://www.arrc-online.com/paddockparking.html. We're talking about the area marked "ACCESS ONLY" with arrows) This map differs somewhat from what they've done in the past; prior years had a road in between those two areas, so either the map is incorrect or they changed it. Regardless, that does not materially change the plan.

Each enclosed trailer will be parked perpendicular in those rows, starting with one on the end of the row closest to Goodyear, with its closed side (away from the trailer side door) facing inwards. I will arrange everyone in an as-user-friendly "community" way as possible, typically by placing each enclosed trailer door-to-door with another; each team will have a roughly 25-foot-or so distance between the open doors of the enclosed trailers. That may seem close, but we've got to keep it tight, and since those rows are (were?) about 50-feet wide that still gives you a lot of room. This way each of the trailers facing each other can have a 10-ft-or-so wide canopy outside your trailer door.

In addition, we will need to camp at least one open trailer person with you in between each of those facing enclosed trailers. So, in the end, you'll all have three cars paddocked in a 25 foot wide-by-at-least-50-foot long space (1250 square feet or so.) If there's truly no road between those two rows this year we may create a separate "open trailer racer compound" in one big area in the middle instead of infiltrating them with the enclosed trailers; I'll figure that once I get there and discuss it with the ARRC Parkers.

So, if you have a preference as to whom you'd like to paddock with, both another enclosed trailer and someone with an open trailer, do let me know your preferences, otherwise I'll park on a first-come-first-served basis.

Capiche?

Greg - It's with regret that I inform you that the CPM Motorsports Team will not be at the ARRC this year. Sorry, but I just can't get the stars to line up correctly. Crunched the numbers and figure it's about $4.800.00 to get us all there and back, fed, shelterd, fueled, registered, tires, test day and the rest of the race stuff needed and the incidentals. Time and work are an issue too. We voted and all feel that the money will be better spent on the car for next year.

CPM Motorsports will be cheering for all of our Northeast racers. Good Luck Everyone!

greg,

Mike Reese and I paddocked together last year on the corner space, we took one space for the two of us. It was tight but we made it work. We would like to be together again or close to each other if possible (he's always borrowing parts from me and needs me to tell him how to put them in the car!!)

Thanks again,
Charlie Gerundo

Noted; remind me when you get there. Michael told me he wasn't showing until Thursday; what about you?

I'm leaving tonight for VIR, then straight on to Atlanta. May or may not spend time checking this forum, so any changes please call me on my cell, 203.209.1217.

Also note, that with 300 entries for this event we're likely going to be packed in a LOT tighter than in years past; please be patient and accommodating, otherwise I'll throw you back to the ARRC Parkers and you'll be at their collective mercies...

See you there! - GA
