I was looking at the GCR today and I was looking at my Series and the ITB B section Mustang 2.3 years run from 79-93 so I could use parts from these cars. example: Use the rotors off a 1989 Mustang 2.3 ,I have 1980 rotors and it is hard to get racing pads for it anymore I was lucky when I bought the car there was a couple of sets with it, anyway if i don't gain any performance advantage can I use the rotors off a 89 if they are the same size and configuration. What about the spindles I know this has probably been addressed but it is all kinda gray area to me. I read about people switching out a front clip on a GTI from a completely different year, would this be a performance inprovement, better aero's etc. I am not picking on you VW guys it was the first car to come to mind. I know but I have heard several stories about what I can and can't do. I know if the GCR says you can't don't, but if it doesn't say still don't. Any thoughts

First, set free any questions about whether "performance advantage" bears on the issue. It doesn't. Then read the section about updating/backdating and think about what an "assembly" is in your particular case. There's room there but it's not a free-for-all.

I found it and read it, so if my service manual has an 1983 2.3 mustang with 5 lug wheels and 10 inch rotors in the same series I am good? :) I'm trying here!!!!!! :P

Sounds like it, per the spec line (F) 237 or 255.5 Disc

So you can go with the larger brakes, but if you update to the larger brakes, everything thats different has to go with it per the rules. If the spindle part numbers are the same, then that would just mean, caliper, carrier, rotor and pads.

remember that all asemblys that you update backdate must come from a car on the same spec line as yours.

the cars that are listed on the SAME line as yours in the IT section of the GCR. in your case that is 79-93 2.3 sohc mustangs. nothing of 6cy cars unless the exact same part is on the 2.3

Yes Kevin the 87-93 4 cyc had bigger (10 inch) front rotors. They are much better. There are 3 known pads available.

The Performance Friction Z rated pad. good for tracks that don't eat brakes or if you have really good ducting. Ask me how I know and how to build a proper brake cooling package. $60.00

Porterfields has a few different R-4 compounds that are better. $200.00 a set last time I checked I think.

I have just ordered a new pad form england, EBC blues. Perfect Brakes out of Ohio got them for me. They are endurance pads we will run in the VIR 13 hour race. $125.00

EBC also has a yellow pads that is rated for shorter races and you can order them from Perfect Brakes 800-581-8952. The mustang backing plate is the D310 for the EBC pads. I think they are about $100.00

I have seen more than one mustang smoke through a set of pads in a single race at Road Atlanta. Some even have NO brakes as they reach the end of the back strait and go sliding through the gravel almost flipping, really cool.

One thing to remember SVO Mustang parts are out, no 4 wheel discs. I don't know where you read a 5 lug wheel, they were all 4 lug.
