View Full Version : Top Speeds for ITS?

I'm trying to minimize costs by getting the right R&P the first time. Anyone know top speeds for ITS cars at Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, NHIS and/or Lime Rock? The project is an ITS GTI VR6, but speed data for any/all ITS cars would be greatly appreciated.

My ITS RX7 would do 140 + at Pocono running a 4:88 in 4th. My other RX7 did the same in 5th with a 5:12.

With my stock motored GSR I am at about 120 MPH at both NHIS and LRP on the straights.

Mid-Ohio I'm at about 115. I doubt if anyone's over 120.

Oooo, Marty's gonna be pissed if he found out the top speed of a certain ITA car at Mid-Ohio...

200 mph baby! V8 power! When I get on the nitrous, it's 220!

LRP: My 4.3 is perfect. No 5th gear on the front straight. Braking into T1 at redline.

NHIS: Again, perfect. No 4th gear anywhere but the front straight. Braking into T6 at redline.

This gear was a significant improvement at these tracks over my 4.88 due to less shifts.

I would assume you were reading this on the stock speedo on the dash? Great for the EGO but not a chance in the real world. :D 128 at VIR with legal gears and I won't say which one.

Dad-gum sissy cars are s'posd tu be slower. What's this world coming to, anyway... :014:

OK, I checked my logs - 118 MPH (based on a Hoosier R6 225/45-15 circum of 72.13"). From the time I nail it in the middle of the keyhole to braking for T7 is 19.5 seconds. I didn't see anyone pulling me on the straight, even Rob when he lapped me.

Yeah, but don't forget: your car "handles". It's obvious that in a tete-a-tete battle you'd kick my butt! The CRXs certainly did!

20.0 seconds, 121.16 mph, GPS-based data acq-derived...

Maybe the car could whup you, but I can't. The egg was 3 seconds faster than me.

Steve, you know that there are no secrets in ITS anymore. We all KNOW that you run a modified 1.89:1 out a diesel ford courier pick up at VIR. That way you only use first and second gear. Fewer shifts = better lap times.. :P :eclipsee_steering:

You can't fool us.

Jim, that's just what it looks like on the shifter tunnel of Steve's car. But I've been to his shop and I know the secret. He's got himself a 2 speed Powerglide in that sucker. I always wondered how he managed to drive with one hand out the window.....

3.45 rear gear on my car, 225/45/13s, I think a .83 fifth gear, about 125 mph at teh end of the backstraight at VIR with the new aero friendly top.

Busted!! It is the Aussie spec diesel. 3.-- or something like that. You do get to third on the back straight. :P

You think Greg's car is a sissy car. First time racing there I think my little ol' plastic sissy car was doing 117mph according to the DL-1?? :P

Sorry, couldn't resist!! :D

Following Nick's RX7 and the 2 Autotechnic BMWs - Rob had a working speedo in his car. It was a 4 car drafting train - that was the numba, but from a stock speedo in an E36.

I'd agree 130 might be tops without a draft.

Just for reference:

I will assume a .76 GTU fifth gear and R6 Hoosier at 22.8 diameter.

With a 4.88 in 4th gear:
8500 = 118
9000 = 125
9500 = 132
10000 = 139

With a 5.12 in 5th
8000 = 140

Remember that a stock speedo does not know you changed tire diameter or rear gear ratio. Great numbers for BS over beer but not real world data.

Yup, your stuff above is right on - GTU and 50 series tires running at 8200. Speedo isn't like data aq - I never run a speedo because I only care about time. (PS - now that I recall I think my other rear was a 4:66 - that's what Kip told me when I bought the car in '04 - always got some eyebrows on that one.)

But seriously - only 128 at VIR?

That explains your strong Pocono results - that tranny can handle some speed!

So what's my Fiero speed potential? (I'll buy you a soda)

Just to add salt to the wound. I don't have data, but I was bouncing off the rev limiter before braking for 7. 7000 rpm in 4th would put me at over 120 also. :eclipsee_steering:

LOL - you can see I ain't working too hard today by number of posts. :lol:

Show me the MPH! (it'll be lame like 120 but you don't want to say since you'd like to chuckle at the $$ wasted if I finish this thing)

Note to new racers - $6000 and counting on a car that is a questionable racer - buy a built and proven car!

I remember back in 1995 the first time I was out in my new RX-7 w/ 5:12 and working speedo. Showing close to 160 at end of the long Memphis straight. Boy, was I excited about that! :eclipsee_steering: Til I thought about it.

I would think that Charlotte would yield the highest top speed - what have people done there?

Steve, we missed you at N'ville.

Missed seeing you guys Bill. Work got in the way this week and the car ate a pilot bearing in the shop. Just lacked motivation to pull it out and fix it. Didn't help that I had no spare. :D
