Flame me if I'm wrong, but that looks to me like exit speed, not HP. You matched him from T1 through the entry of the keyhole. It was at the entry of the turn that he pulled away, and he had a much higher exit speed than you. That speed differential was maintained through the entire back straight. Very clear illustration of the importance of corner exit speed. But, oh he is faaast.

It's nearly 100% cornering speed, I don't gain on you from T1 to Keyhole... It COULD be the 10+ MPH I have on you from start of Keyhole to the exit of Keyhole. I know it's always easiest to assume that the faster car has the most HP though, rather than setup and driving! <_<
I should have my video posted soon, including the wonderful mis-shift at the start of Sunday's race! :bash_1_:

I don't doubt the cornering advantage of 400lbs less weight but I'd be willing to bet your pretty close to the same engine output as me (without the weight). Care to post a dyno graph and put the speculation to rest? :D

I was enlightned this weekend. I saw the light!
The back straight @ Mid Ohio is loooong, and so exit of the key hole is paramount! I had the oppurtunity to dice with a few guys, I could keep ahead of them on most laps, sometimes they were right there, sometimes they got the drive. And Visa Versa when I was behind someone.
Then comes the larger than life heroes that we all want to be....
I thought for sure that they would blow by me on the straight, but no! Being lap traffic, and my race, all but decided, I decided to give them the turn.
No, I believe instead of trying the next go fast goody, I'm going to rummage thru the closet and look for that big set of kahoonas I once had.

What speculation? YOUR speculation? Speculation of what? That we have similar HP/Weight? Shouldn't that be the case? The Integra is a GREAT handling car. I know, I raced an Integra for a full year, and it was possibly the smoothest, most stable FWD race car I've ever driven. The CRX scares the $hit out of me every time I leave pit lane! It's my favorite car, and definitely rewards you if you care to let it hang out a bit, but it is by no means a HP car! (kind of funny actually to be called out on this, have you ever seen us at Atlanta?)

Talk to Ruck, Muresan, Evan, Jan Rief, Serra... Integras are just as strong in handling as the CRX, depending on the course/turn. Its give and take, the CRX has ZERO advantage in high speed sweepers, but does wonderful in tight turns, entering straights. We set our cars up to be very loose in T1-type corners, which benefits in Keyhole and Carousel (it's a game of trade-offs and prep).
Anyways, not sure why I feel like I need to defend anything, I had an amazing weekend hanging with all you Northeast guys! AJ, damn, Saturday night was hilarious! Kevin, thank your dad for all the drinks (I think I know his strategy... AJ and I didn't look to good Sunday morning!!). Greg, round 2 at Atlanta will be a blast, hope you get the tranny back together and give me something to chase again at a track that suits your ride a little better!
I'm starting to think that "Cat Killer" is going to give a good run at the ARRC this year, his car isn't too different from the Egg in power, and he is working hard at handling, could be fun (dark horse...cough, cough)
Kevin, get your car back together, welded up tight, and lets get that Great Lakes thing going at the ARRC again. Jan, that goes for you too, take Kevin's advice and stop breaking axles!

Yeah, I'm really sorry if I messed up anybody in the start! I know I really screwed up my car and my dad's car (he got into me REALLY hard, there was no escaping it), and I clipped Marhefka's car after the hit. We're taking it to the frame puller this week...
Not sure if I'm having brain-fades or issues with my synchro's, but that was the third mis-shift of the weekend!
I went to my my parents house for dinner and race video review tonight and found a plastic chair and a stock CRX gear box sitting in the garage with the instructions to complete 1000 two to three shifts before I enter the house! Damn it :rolleyes:

Joe - congrats again to you and your Dad on last weekend. "The Iceman" just might be back with a vengence. :o You guys are always, 100% of the time awesome to race against and awesome to hang out with. Having probably more wheel to wheel laps with you guys than just about anyone else out there, I know your cars pretty well and you hit the nail on the head. You guys handle like nobody's business in that tight stuff. At Mid Ohio, being that the keyhole and carousel lead onto the longest straights, it just fits your cars so well and you two drive the piss out of it. I've been trying for years to get anywhere close to you guys through those corners, but seem to be going backwards more than anything lately. Maybe one day. But come on dude, a 1:42.9? How the hell am I supposed to match that?! I haven't even run in the 1:44's yet this year! :P

Exactly. When Huffmaster lapped me in the keyhole, I hung on his bumper all the way to T7, then he was gone. He's 5 seconds faster than me. Told him the next morning that he had helped me find my big problem - "it's them pesky turns!".

No problem anytime. ;) It was nice to see the FAST cars from up close on sundays start. My goal was to try and get a great start and lead the first lap. Came really close. 2nd by the end of the first lap. I then knew it was pointless to hold you guys up after that. That's why when you ,your dad, and AAJH wanted by I didn't even contest. I'll get some video up soon.

You are soooo right. Watch my video on the start of the last race. Watch me out pull both Mosers on the straights..........then watch them blow past me like i'm standing still going into the corners!!!!! I wish I could have had an opportunity to watch them more. Incredible cars, incredible drivers!! Hats off!!

All the tires were doing it. I think it was the fresh paving.
Yes, Chris Childs can pedal that Neon. Great job to the AMIT (American Made IT) Champ. (Chris, send me your mailing address to jlawton at ECHN.ORG) After watching him, I now think the Neon has great potential!!
I'll try to get the video of Crazy Joe going off coming out of turn one and going for a ride in the grass, taking a huge jump over the access road while keeping his foot to the floor the whole time posted tonight.......

If you guys think that I am going to let you pay me, you are crazier than Joe :D What I would propose is that we all help pay for a trophy for next years winner. Now if that means that I handle the $ and get it done then that is fine. I just wouldn't feel right taking the $. It was a pleasure racing with you guys this last weekend and that was enough reward for me. We may be able to start a cool tradition of passing a trophy on to the next years participants? Thoughts?

Here's a bit of a cross-post, but what the heck. :D
At false grid, I wasn't able to get the video system working and handed it off to my wife. She decided to tape a few short segments while watching from a few various spots around the track. What are the odds that she caught this one?
The Sat. race race was going great and I got into a nice rhythm. I built up a decent lead, but made a silly mistake while trying to find the limits through the chicane.

At this point I was pretty pissed and told myself that I was not going to lose this race because of that one mistake. After a couple of laps, the BMW lost the back end a bit and I was able to put some room between us. Phew!

We should have some from Brian's Prelude but I haven't got my hands on the camera that holds both his and my in-car yet. His video from Sunday mornings race should be awesome.

I watched the ITA race from the mound at the keyhole, (after a car issue that took me out) and I was behind Joey for a bit around the backside of the track, and I have to say, those CRX are:
A: Agile
B: Have HUGE cornering speed in the tighter corners
C: Are driven well.
I could see his front wheels in the back section corners go through 30 degrees of correction...he's driving that car.
That said, its a very light car, so it SHOULD be all of the above.
It was VERY obvious that the car FLIES thu the keyhole. I'd love to see the data aq on the speeds and cornering Gs on that car in the keyhole vs other cars. When you can see it with your eyes, you know it's significant.

^^^ That is the first time I have ever seen any of your in-car from Mid Ohio and I kind of want to vomit a little bit. You never have to wait for the car to do something, ever. Passing around the outside of the keyhole? Are you freaking kidding me? It kind of makes me want a CRX....but then I see how much you're sawing on the wheel every lap. :lol:
I also like how baller it makes Ian look. He never hit the brakes! Ever! :o

seriously, awesome drive. lee and i were watching from the end of the back straight and it was really fun to watch you coming back up through the field. and then running lock step with your dad for the checker.
we had no idea what happened on the start but there is plenty of video to see now.
you guys have those cars dialed in! you have some incredible cornering speeds. on saturday we watched at the carousel and were amazed at where you guys were able to get back on the thottle.

Yeah, it hurt a little to watch all the cars go by! I was really just worried about getting back up to run with my dad and help dice it up and slow down Marhefka a bit! I'm just really happy with how the cars were handling last weekend, my dad does a hell of a job setting those things up, and King Motorsports does a hell of a job building engines :) I'm just lucky enough to drive one of them...
Damn, that video of Crazy Joe is wild, I've seen that corner eat up way too many cars! That SE-R just blasts over the grass like its nothing! That car is just a beast, a very fast beast...

I'll definately have to spend some time watching that video closer tonight. It definately showed me one thing I was sure of, I wasn't driving in deep enough on the carosel.

I was doing everything I could to keep you and Jeremy behind me at the end of that race without being a total dick!! (yes, it's a fine line..... :D ) If it was early on I would have let you guys go but I knew there were only a couple of laps to go!! The only thing that kept in front for so long was my power (hey, it's a Saturn!! <_< ). You guys did a good job!

Thanks Jeff. I'll say that everyone I raced with that weekend drove very well. Very predictable and comfortable to drive around. I was nervous going into the weekend about racing with a bunch of guys I know nothing about. But everyone drove great and made clean passes. :035:

Um, I "think" he meant cringe, as in the car and driver were doing amazing things. He certainly didn't mean it in a negative sense. I know for a fact that Greg has the upmost respect for the Mosers driving ability (especially since they spanked him all weekend long!! :P ).

Windows media player and quicktime failed, but i was able to "kinda" play it w/ "dvd x player 4.0 professional". Comes up, show some "honda" tower a really long time...i then skipped ahead, and the best action i could get was 7 cars on what looks like a back-stretch, a celica, 2002, 2002, crx, 924, 318, and a rabbit, and the 924 eventually makes a move on the crx.
But it even caused dvd x player to crash 4 or 5 times...it appears to be corrupted...i give up.

agreed regarding the corner exit speed. there was more than once where it seems fairly obviously i gain for a bit out of the corner only to be left in the dust and then catch some under braking and through the turns.
then later under breaking, i was not catching anyone. not even a cold.
and vaughn, i guess the real reason you rarely see that footage is because no one is behind you? :D

The only other guy who gets behind me (Doug, in the 66 Bimmer) doesn't share his video - when it works - with me... guess he doesn't want me to see the mistakes he thinks I'm always making that let him keep up! ;)

Ah the memories... probably one of my most fustrating races in my life, and it showed...
My car wasn't up to par handling or power...
The darn black ITS Supra, who was doing his best, but really f-ed up what should have been a good race from the begining. This really took my mind out of the race, and it effected my driving.
Then we have the super fast BMW's that their isn't any chance an Audi is going to stay up with on those long streights... Possibly the new VW's will? This will be interesting to watch in 08!!!
