I'm looking at a car that runs EMRA ST3. Anyone know if this car could be easily adapted to run SCCA ITB? Sorry if it's a dumb question I'm a newbie and tried to find EMRA's class rules for ST3 and didn't see them.

Thanks

unless the owner can show you that it meets itb rules. then you have to go through each item and check yourself.. i would rather buy a itb car and run it in st-3. emra is a great orginization but the you have a better chance of getting a car that conforms to both if you buy the ITB car. witch car is it? i may know it?

Chewy, based upon what little I can tell from your post, the car you are interested in is probably not an ITB car. Most EMRA ST-3 cars cross over to ITS. ITB tends to match up more closely with ST-5. If it appears to be a ITB car, it is probably a car with modifications not legal for SCCA that get it bumped up to ST-3/ITS. You would (most likely) have to undo those to be SCCA compliant.

EMRA has a longstanding tradition of "run what ya brung" so long as it is safe. We have a system of allowable "bumps" that allow for modifications above and beyond those allowed in the rule set, such as non-OE brakes, engine swaps, cams, and / and forced induction. This leads to interesting combinations like rotary powered Spridgets, V8 Miatas, and any number Honda bastardizations running in a variety of classes that on face value they would not appear to belong in.

If you want, please feel free to contact me at chieftech at emraracing dot org and I can answer any questions you may have, or perhaps tell you anything I might know about the car in question.

ON EDIT - Though John posted links to the current EMRA guide, there is one glaring error in there regarding classifications. We changed the numbering system two years back and the change never made it to the final version. Kinda sloppy, I know, but I'm not employed by Random House either. Either way, the class listings are all off by (2). Ergo, ST-3 is now ST-5, ST-2 is now ST-4, etc., etc., etc. Either way, contact me and I'll be happy to wade through it with you and figure out what you are looking at.

(Happy Mr. Impaler? It's late and this is the best I could manage. I know it's not up to your standards. However, we will have Jell-O waiting with your name on it...)

You did fine. Gold star. Please use cactus-based ink on the Jell-O.

It can be dicey enough trying to be sure a car advertised as an ITB car is legal for ITB... :)

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm just trying to increase my range of cars to purchase outside of SCCA. Sounds like I will keep the search within ITB. Probably cheaper in the long run finding a car ready for ITB. Here is the link anyway.

The "From: Front Royal, VA" doesn't give it away? :P

There are several cars listed which you should consider. If it's in your price range, I'd strongly recommend that you consider Rick's ITB Civic which has also run plenty of EMRA events. It is a GREAT car.
