Ray, I went to an SCDA HPDE on Tueday (unmuffled / experienced drivers only). I got black flagged in the first session for fuel spillage; it turned out the fuel filler tube was rusted. While taking it out and making something that would work for the day, some rust may have gotten into the tank. In the last session at the end, the car started to hesitate / bog a bit on the straights. I drained the tank, and now I suppose I should remove it to clean the gas pick up screen. When draining it there was about 3 - 4 gallons left in the tank. Hopefully I'll figure things out. When I took the tank of my last car after it was destroyed, it was not an easy process.

I do not recall seeing any IT cars (at least not ITC, B, or A). There was an MX-5 cup car, and a driver getting practice for the upcoming American LeMans in a Spec Ford.

I had entered the last race, and went to test on the Tuesday prior, but sadly a procedural change may have bitten me..the engine was toasted in a short 4 laps. I have parts on the way, should be arriving tomorrow or Monday, but, I need to do a complete rebuild. Time will tell.

This will be my first race this year and actually the first time on track since I converted to R. So far I'm the only one entered. I might switch to S if no one else enters, but I'm curious to see how it runs in R trim.

[/b]

Why do I make predictions??? Why Not?

Trust me I know what I am doing.... This is a learning process. What is the best way to learn? Set Goals.

What happens when you don't reach your goals? You go back and look at what you are doing wrong.

How do I know what I am doing wrong? I have thousands of critics on this board to help me with that! :P :P

Again, I am happy to be racing and I am having fun learning. I don't have a large ego or dream of winning a championship. I am learning and absorbing as much as possible.

I am not afraid to make mistakes and have them in public. Everyone on this board has been where I am. EVERYONE!!!

One day I will be "a champion" and all of you can say, hey I helped Jeremy get there!

Jeremy, I totally disagree with how you are setting your "goals". You are setting an outcome / result - you need to adjust your approach. Why 1:03s and not 1:02s? Why not something faster? You are also limiting yourself by setting a time as an outcome. Leaving the result aside, what types of things do you want to work on? You said your entry into big bend and speed through the uphill. Base your goals on this and the results will follow.

I did a high 1:05 last time, so anything more than 2 seconds would most likely result in a busted up car. I here your point though Dave... If you set you sights on 1:03's thats all that you will achieve.

We can talk more about goals, when I am swearing at your car on Sunday morning! :D

lateapex911
06-28-2007, 06:45 PM
I think what he's saying is don't focus just on the lap time, focus on the parts that make up that lap time, and the lap time will come.

In the early stages of racing, it's best to focus on specific goals, like consistency of turn in, apex, and track out points, smoothness, looking far down the track, being at the edge of the friction circle consistently, etc. Once those are happening without thinking, fine tuning and experimentation can occur with an eye to the differences they make to lap times. I know you are probably thinking that, but I can see how it could be misread.

Lap times are of course, all important, but the track is an everchanging variable.

Ok, back to the shop for me...

dickita15
06-28-2007, 07:47 PM
I see your point Jake but I think the lap time goals are worthy. Particularly at a track like lime rock, for a new guy going fast is often about exceeding your comfort level. Just hitting your marks is not enough, sometimes you have to push yourself.

lateapex911
06-28-2007, 08:16 PM
You're right Dick! I have some of that pushing of myself to go, LOL.

gran racing
06-28-2007, 08:22 PM
But Dick, a goal might be to carry more speed through big bend by doing X, being smoother and careful about scrubbing speed, getting on the power through the downhill much sooner. All of these things equate to a result, your lap time. Sure it's important for one to push themselves. I'll also admit that proper goal setting is one area I need to focus on more.

There are numerous books on goals as it pertains to sports in general, and they relate directly to racing. I did however take one of my Speed Secrets book off the shelf: "The performance model - Remember that we are using performance in terms of cause. Your time and your finishing position are the effect, or the result. Your performance is what caused the result." "Your real goal is to get 100% out of yourself - to perform at your maximum level."

I was just recently reminded that the only time that matters in the race is the total time at the end. The lap times are just how you got there. Consistency is also important. It does little for someone to get one lap at 1:03 yet all the rest are 1:07s.

Didn't mean to steer this so off course...should be a seperate thread.

Jake
06-28-2007, 08:55 PM
Don't you people have cars that need to be prepared for the race? :eclipsee_steering:
