Ok, So after almost 30 consecutive hours, 2 engines and 2 complete wiring harnesses with too many long drawn out Junkyard scavenges, IT RUNS!!!

Here are some pics.

Wiring harness issues sound familiar. We traced ours to faults in the fuse box itself.

Welcome to the MkIII ITB club. If you want to send info and a picture, we'll put a note on our site to share your car. Or if you have technical hints you've discovered, we can put them at http://www.it2.evaluand.com/gti/tech.php. We had this idea about being a clearinghouse of sorts for info on these cars, if you want to share.

Congrats -- that is a pretty Golf. I like it. German cars always look good in silver for some reason.

And nothing worse than electrical faults. What did the issues end up being?

Good news Aaron! See you in Elkhart Lake next weekend.

Should be lots of VW in ITB - me, you, Mike, Bob, Bill are all in for sure. I would be surprised if Tom's VW was not there as well. I think there may be some BMW and Honda representation too.

I hope I can keep up. :eclipsee_steering:

Well we had a faulty engine harness. And then we had a bad fuel pump relay. I am looking forward to next weekend, but have no time to get an annual prior to the track. :P

Then it looks like I will see you in tech on Friday night :P

Maybe wire the fuel pump thru the defroster switch, skip the relay. It is good for 30 amps and takes out the relay issues. Race cars and relays often dont go well. The vibes can interupt the relay and some weird things happen. WFM.

Congratulations and welcome to the A3 club.

I also had the wiring woes and replaced the full harness and relay/fuse panel. It seems a mandatory prep as any bad or missing signal sends the ecu into a limp mode.

Cool! Looking good! Look forward to many years of dependable service. Those cars are very reliable, and pretty fast too.
Hope we'll see you at the track!

I'm working on getting an A3 too. It's a 4 door but who cares! The weight is the same and the price is right. It'll be a street car for a while with the plan on the slow conversion over the next couple of years. AutoX for a while with the boss lady and enjoy my GP Roc. No plan on building a front runner, just and ITB runner!
