I accidentally woke up in Topeka today. (Must be the Alzheimer's.) And then I accidentally found myself at Heartland Park where, coincidentally, the NHRA Summer Nationals are being held this weekend. An amazing coincidence. Really, it was.

Anyway, since I was already there I decided to wander around the pits. Do you realize that at the top of the food chain (nitro) these guys are putting out around 800 hp, per cylinder? I've seen camping tents smaller than some of these engine blocks. Absolutely amazing.

I love racing, in every flavor. Never a dull moment.

Just thought I'd pass that on. That is all. Carry on.

When you see all of the guys grabbing gas masks, that is you clue to start walking away. If you don't you will soon hear this loud sound of all 5000hp waking up (which is awesome), but the motor begins to fart this yellow cloud that will burn the hairs out of your nose quicker then even Matt Yip.

I'm jealous, have fun.

I did some drag racing when I was young and foolish. Now that I'm old and foolish it's fun to check back in and get close to the parts and pieces.

I noticed that the most popular item in the gift shop, next to the T-shirts, are the ear plugs. :)
