Suppose you run struts with inserts. Suppose there is an air gap between the OD of the cartridge insert and the ID of the strut tube. Suppose you put a thermally conductive grease or whatever on the outside of the cartidge before inserting in the strut.

Since we can't run reservoirs do you suppose it would increase the ability to keep the insert cool by maximizing the transfer of heat to the external area?

Like I said, hokey, but ya never know.

Per the manual, in our cars to my knowledge you're supposed to partially fill them with oil (most use ATF) to allow them to cool, or they might overheat!

My memory grows more suspect with each passing year but I think we've used glycol engine coolant for that purpose...?

Not hokey at all.

First, some liquid will help aid heat transfer, and second, any oil will help keep oxidation at bay.

When I ran inserts, I used atf to transfer heat to the housing better.
