Paraphrased from a local newspaper in The Glen area:

Fire fighters battled a blaze at the Glen Club at Watkins Glen International Tuesday
WGI President Craig Rust said a neighbor called in the fire at about 8:45 p.m.
The fire appears to have been concentrated on the track side of the Glen Club. The buiding appears to be a total loss.
Rust said the fire should not affect events held at WGI over the summer.
“We move forward,” Rust told The Leader via telephone from the scene of the fire. “Our focus will be: What do you do? We've got people that are Glen Club ticket holders for the season, so we'll have to get together and determine how we handle this season. It is only March and the key race of the year isn't until the middle of August.”
At press time, representatives of the Schuyler County Sheriff's department had not made a statement about the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.

That's what it is used for off-season. During spectator Races, it is a sponsor hosp. area, like the chalets at LRP etc.

One of those low-slung buildings on your right as you were half-way between Turn 2 and the top of the Esses. Not used for SCCA events ($$rent$$$), except for the past few years at the Glen Region's season-ending "Last Chance" weekend.

I was in it once, another club rented it and put on a feed at the end of the day. I can see that it would have been a great place to watch from. Big windows & a deck that looked right onto the esses (I had no idea there was that much banking in those turns until I saw them from this building). My guess is that they sold passes to that place for big money and favors.

Kind of a road race equivalent of the sky boxes at an oval.

They will build something to replace it.

Dick, if you attended the last event of season Glen region used it for the party for end of the Season party. Big thing is it also contained the kitchens for Food prep. Tom w

Ahhhh yes, I've been in there before. NSXPO was held at WGI in 2004 and they held a nice banquet and dinner in there. Nice place, but like they said, it wouldn't have any effect on putting on a race if it was gone.
