Can the new GTI be competitive?

I didn't want to hijack the other post, so will ask the question here. While the "GTI Cup" will be fun to watch, I would rather see the VW in club racing. Do those of you more familiar with the GTI and with SCCA Club Racing, think that the new GTI could be competitive in a SS or Touring class? Where do you think it would be best classed?

You will :D .... and if classed properly it's a winner. The car is fabulous right out of the box.
