EDIT - this is coming out of VW worldwide, with Danish ex-F3, sportscar, and touring ace Kris Nissen managing the deal. It's for real.

This is the part that excites me:
"Starting this year, VW is establishing a $300,000 contingency fund for registered participants in Sports Car Club of America events. A lot of racers compete with a range of VW cars in various SCCA classes, and they will all be eligible for extra money from VW if they win."

I hope all really does mean all.

I figured since I am not really in the loop with VW or SCCA, it might have been something that was common knowledge to the VW SCCA racers, despite the recent press release.

Cool for you guys!!! I wonder if ALL will include me in my 35 year old Formula Vee.

I heard rumblings before the runoffs, but absolutely no details were included until today. It was more like 'VW is going to do something in club racing'. At one point it looked like they would announce it at the Runoffs, but obviously they didn't.

Now that the new is here...YAY!
:026:

Good thing we never got rolling on that WCTC project :D

More info on contingency stuff will be coming out sometime in the next 30 days.

Now I know what my friends at VW have been teasing me with for months!

Both the VW Cup and the SCCA contingency are what we've been waiting for since the 80s.

This is absolutely great news ! :026:

I think you'll find the deal was entirely developed (begged for) by one of ours on this side of the pond. He might be very upset if we started plastering his name all lover the internet... I've sent him a big "thank you" already. I heard this was going to be announced in April/May ...

My suspicion is that the VW Cup will be set up exactly like the Polo Cup in Germany. But it's all good at this point :023:

It's great that VW will once again become involved in US racing. :D As a VW racer I welcome and appreciate the contingency awards. :happy204: For those of us on the west coast it would have been nice if VW would have come out with the "2007" contingency information at the start of 2007. If it doesn't come out until April/May, our season is already half over. :(

Do I dare hope that perhaps VW will consider further assistance by developing a program similar to "Mazda Speed". As I plan to move on to a National class such as SS or T3 or even Prod, from a support standpoint it's difficult to look at anything other than a Mazda product.
