tried to post this a while ago so i hope its not a double post.

Is the sunfire approved anywhere in IT? i know they made this thing in a 2.2l and a 2.4l model. did they make a 6 cyl car at any time? would this be a car to look at or a bomb.

Would you like to propose a specific model and year? Then we can give you an idea where it would fall. Be sure to include hp and tq numbers.

If you are going to go to the trouble of finding data on the Sunfire, include the same years of Chevy Cavalier.

I was not that far along. i was just wanting to know if anyone knew anything about the cars being already classed in IT and any details about them. They are front wheel drive cars and may be heavy or no real support in the aftermarket and lots of other things that can be a pain. just general talk. is the cavalier the same car? the sunfire looks good but i dont like the cavalier at all. there has to be some reason why you never see any interest in these cars, wonder why that is? Slow?handeling?power?breaks a lot? ugly? rear suspenion?front? stuff like that.

Geez. What a big meanie.

What if the lack of 'merican options in IT was a "barrier to entry?" ;)

K

On Edit - I'm only half kidding about this. There's no question that the Cavalier family (yeah, they are basically the same cars) has a following.

You're right....

And I added a word for you.

I forgot my winky smiley guy there. Sorry if I offended.

Touche' on the barrier to entry...;)

That said, I do think that most roadracers have gravitated to foreign cars because of a perception that their components are better built, and more likely to do well in competition. There is a mindset still in existance that feels that American cars aren't as well designed, and that the manufactirers would rather just make a part heavier, than spend extra time creating a more elegant engineering solution. Next quarter profit mentality, and all that.

That said, American manufacturers are very capable of designing excellent cars with great performance at great prices, when they are allowed to...witness the Corvette. Give a team what they need, a clear vision, and leave them alone, and see what happens...

From having worked in the industry when these cars first came out let me say that the 2.2 has some intresting....ah....design characteristics....ya that's it.

The two cars are for all practical reasons the same under the skin. They arn't as bad as some people would leave you to think.

Ya know, if yer Tee-Are-Ate is in Eye-Tee-Ess, I see no reason not to ask for the Tie-Ger to get a build. 140net crack hp...heck - it's an ITA caaaahhh.

referring to the posts above, the SUNFIRE is not a SUNBIRD and subsequently not the same as a chevy cavalier...

Not true Chuck. The Sunfire replaced the Sunbird in 1995. It is still the GM "J" platform. Pontiac opted to change the name along with the styling change, Chevrolet did not change the Cavalier name with their styling update.

The Cavalier was replaced with the Cobalt and the Sunfire was replaced by the G5.

SO where in the IT classification does the sunfire fall? I can't seem to find it...

It's not in the ITCS. Nobody has ever asked for it to be classed.

I had a Cavalier as a company car more then a few years ago, I was even able to con them into getting me one with a manual tranny (That was a first) It was not a bad little car, I liked it. But blowing head gaskets, water pumps, windows falling off tracks. But when everything was together it was not a bad little car.
