I was wanting to pick up a simple lap timer, Im not really looking for a datalogger or anything too fancy, and this amb displayit has caught my eye amb (http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecId=4793)
If I buy one with my transponder , Theres a sale which has a 260 with one of these for $699, which only makes it
$375, seems like a good deal to me.

any of you guys using one? Will it fit on a steering wheel? It has a lot of featuires that Im sure Id use, but do you think its worth it?

also, a quick question, do tracks have their amb systems on or off during pdx events? or during other practice days?

the displayit uses only the amb signal, so if their system is off, it becomes useless, and I would really like an in-car lap timer I can use all of the time.

N/M, answered my own questions,

if the timing system is off, it no worky, and even then, if the tracks timing system isnt set up just right, still doesnt work.

now I understand why they are on sale so cheap.

so help point me in the right direction , I need a decent , affordable lap timer that is also reliable..

ive found this thing: http://www.mychron4.com/default.asp , its for karts, but it has a few extra features over a standard lap timer, and costs the same, under $300 any of you guys used "karting" diplays before in your IT cars? or is this a dumb idea?

Check out the timers sold by Rollcentre in England.

I've had the same one for the last 5-6 years and it works great, I cant remember the last time I had to put a beam out on the wall. This works off most everyone elses infra red beam. It's small so shipping should be cheap to the US

anrkii...

My region upgraded our AMB software earlier this year for our first race. AMB then sent us free of charge a Displayit to give to a local racer to test. I am in contact with the racer that I gave it to constantly and we figured out that the Displayit will only work with the upgraded software as well. He and I went to two other tracks other than our own and the Displayit never worked properly. And one of those tracks was HPT. FWIW.

Good info, Phil. I was giving it consideration, but felt like my money might be better spent on driver comfort, i.e. coolshirt.

I was thinking about getting on of these, $289, and would eliminate the need for a fancy tach, temp guage, and lap timer, it has warning lights for temp, and shift lights.
Its technically for karts, but there isnt a single feature on it that I wouldnt use....

but I dunno, any input?

Aim makes great stuff.

That unit is less than those big goofy tachs...and it has the shift lights included, it times laps, and so on.

I have an AIM Pista system, and it is very well built. Mil spec appearing. Support has been great. Highly recommended.

That's got a lot of nice features. Sure makes my Hot-Lap system look primitive.
Wanna trade? :D
