Hey racers.

Just curious, how many of you have fire systems and have a spare bottle at the track?

I don't, but I do also have a 2.5 lb hand held in the car as back up.

Having a handheld fire bottle in the car with a fire system is a good idea. It seems it is a know fact
that an old spring loaded fire bottle top that pushes down on the valve fails when the fire release is pulled.

A fellow racer had a small fire that turned into a medium fire, when he pulled his fire handle and the
fire system did not release. A comment was made at the track about the known problem with the
spring top. I say a medium fire, since the driver got out OK, but he was across track from the worker
station, and the fire truck or the worker could not get to him until the race was black flagged.
Luckly for him the fire was contained on the left side of the engine compartment.

His plan is to perform regular maintenance of the fire system, which would include discharging the
system which would then require a recharge ($$).
