offset cam gear keys?

my head is cut down .025, and i am needing to compensate my cam timing for this, i was told that i need offset woodruff cam key, does anyone make these, or is it an easy DIY operation?

I believe putting an offset key into the cam gear would be illegal. I think you can only install an offset key into the crank gear. Personally, I've never bothered with offset keys so I can't really tell you if they're useful or not. Doesn't seem to be for me at least.

Ok, I guess I was right in my DOHC case. But in your SOHC case, you could do an offset key at the cam gear.

I also think that you may want to take the time and run the calculations on what shaving .025" off your head did to your compression ratio. I did this for my Integra&#39;s engine and found that with a .040" overbore, anything over .016" off the head would result in over a 0.5 bump in the compression ratio. This, as quoted by Andy above, would be illegal.

Also, check to see if the cam timing is in fact changed with the head cut. Usually, the material lost is minor, and the resulting change in cam timing (retarded in engined I have worked on) is advantageous for top end power.

Could be extra work for no gain.

each .012 off the head is equivalent to 1deg timing retard, so my cam timing is 2 degrees retarded, is that enough to even worry about?
