Well, I'm going to take the plunge and build a BMW for ITA, a 325e. To get started I need to install the roll cage. I have a question about the sunroof tracks. In the BMW there is a sheet metal housing attached to inside of the roof that houses the sunroof tracks. Can I legally remove this so that I can get the roll hoop closer to the actual roof? Thanks for any help you can offer. Kerry.

If you could get the car without a sunroof, then the answer is easy, you can convert the roof to a non sunroof by removing all the sunroof components. Replace the hole with a sheet of appropriate sized metal.

Now if the car was NOT available sans sunroof, then I think the answer is the same, but I have to check the good book.

have a look in the "ITS/KP/Spec E30 issues" thread in this section.

Basically, the answer is yes, you can remove the sunroof liner and frame.
thanks,

Why yes it is. Imagine meeting you here. Well how did like the 24 hours, pretty cool except for those stupid axle boots that are supposed to be the hot ticket. Are you going to be at Sebring thos month, driving what?
