My local aftermarket sheetmetal supplier is coming up goose-eggs on a hood for Pablo's resurrection. (It was the one piece on the new car that came pre-crashed.)

The local dealer is an option but we've lost our good-guy deal there, and all of the online places are shipping from the west coast. Upshot? Every option is $250, plus or minus.

Any ideas out there?

Kirk,

Nothing available in the local wrecking yards? You should be able to get one for $50 - $100 out of a local yard? None of the Vortex boys have one? I got lucky and got the one for my car for free, but it had a small dent in the front.

Kirk,
Still going to the ARRC?
There is an auto body sheet metal warehouse in Stone Mountain that has parts at Internet prices. My lichtweight :D Golf fenders/hoods are from there.

If they don't work out I know there are a bunch of VW specialists North of Atlatna that probably have a hood. Perhaps some of the locals here can help out ??

Check with Lakeview VW Recycle auto parts in Charlotte.

Call John Farmer at 704-393-8655. Lakeview is located at 5500 Wilkinson Blvd on the west side of Charlotte.

Cheers, Ryan.

Thanks for the leads, guys. I hadn't thought about Atlanta - that's a good one.

An option that I chose when I started to rebuild the General Li was to attend one of those miserable "Public Auto Auctions" and purchase a pre-disastered auction car. I picked up an entire Mk2 Golf 2 door for less than half the price of a new quarter panel which was the sole reason for purchasing the car. Now that I have it, it'll give up more than it's value in "pieces".

In the DC area, most towing services have public auctions every month or so. I can't see that to be that different in your area although you may want to goto Raleigh or Charlotte for a greater selection.

PS - don't waste your time looking for a hood on Whoretex. You'll end up paying top dollar for junk since the vast majority of those pinheads think that their VWs are "rare" and "precious".

I've had good luck getting them from my local Erik Veng distributor. They've had it in stock both times that I wanted one, and each cost about $150 (delivered). Only minor problem is that they take the newer washer nozzles (heated 95 version didn't fit).

Kirk

Feel free to call me or email me anytime, being in the body shop business has its benefits ! Try the following ( Raleigh #'s but should have local branches in the triad too )

Keystone auto parts 919-661-5165 part# vw1230107 around $130 and a good fit for a aftermarket part.

*Note the only diff between early and late Golf III hoods are the size of the washer jet holes, washer jets are only a few bucks each if you have to change.

Doh! I can't believe that I forgot Fred! Keystone initially didn't have them but (as of yesterday) are now telling me that they can get one from another warehouse, if I can wait a week. No biggie.

But still, I should have remembered you...

I researched that at length and have determined that "late" style nozzles were OE on cars included in the spec line years, so it's allowed under update/backdate. I have all of the documentation in my folders.

I am not sure Kirk... We need to look at this in further detail... those suckers must add some sort of performance advantage!!!

Raymond "" Blethen

PS: you didn't answer... are you making it to the ARRC???

arent they the new "ram air" nozzles? I was looking to get some of those :119:

If the change is allowed under update/backdate, it doesn't matter if it IS a performance advantage. Furhter, "ram air" is allowed if it came stock.

I'll be at the ARRC, helping out Racer X, but won't be driving. We got pics up on the site of yesterday's progress on the rollcage, if anyone is interested...

We expect to have the cage done by the end of the weekend.
