I know this is not IT racing specific, but there will be a few IT racers there (come see Chris Albins GP Golf autocrossing :119: ) so - if you are within reach of Chicagoland this weekend and have some time, why not come out to the Midwest Treffen event?

Autocross on Saturday
VW show on Sunday
Enthusiast club competition (autocross, drag racing, car show) Sat/Sun

Also VW will have several Mk V GTI and GLI cars on hand for folks to check out, ride in and possibly even drive. :023:

Go to the Treffen link at www.chicagovw.org for more info.

Based on phone conversations with Chris, Todd's drive in Chris' GP Golf was good enough for second in the autocross, the drag car fielded by a couple of other guys was second, and the show car was 5th, so they ended up in an overall tie for second. Not to shabby for their first trip.

Yep it was a great time. It was pretty funny watching Todd hustle Chris' car around a course that was full of 1st gear. There was a really well prepped Sciricco that kicked butt in the autocross.

The club competition drag races were a blast. Drag racing is not my thing, but these guys were fun to watch. There were two clubs that made their first 11 second runs together - The StL guys pulled an 11.955 with a home-made monster, and a Chicago area kid pulled an 11.91x with his daily driver.

186 cars at the show on Sunday, and VW had GTI and GLIs on hand with Schrantz and another guy giving rides on an autox course, and letting plenty of folks take the wheel themselves.

What a good weekend. Best thing to do short of racing. If any of this sounded interested to you folks, we will be doing the same thing next summer.
