View Full Version : IT.com parts sales?

We've been approached by a racing parts company (many of you have used them, I'm sure) to partner with us as the exclusive retailer to IT.com.

I'm soliciting your feedback. Here's the deal so far. This company will publish specials and also give a permanent discount to all members of the IT.com forums here.

Parts targetted to IT racers such as brakes, rotors, electrics, safety equipt, wheels, guages, steering wheels, suspension parts, K&Ns, Diffs, etc. will be featured.

A special section of this site or their site will be linked to IT.com. I've specified that only parts relavent to IT racing should be made available and that the discount should be such that these parts are truly a better deal than most places.

My questions are: Does anyone have concerns with such a deal? Does anyone have ideas on how this could be made to benefit all IT racers? Profits above and beyond that which are taken by the company in question and those which would go to pay for all IT.com expenses (yes, maybe a new server which doesn't goes down) could be used for such things as prizes or contingency awards in bigger IT races (Enduros) or the ARRC.

Your thoughts on this are appreciated.

Ok, I'll be the first to post. Not sure if I'm the only one still up tonight or just the first one to comment on this possibly touchy topic.
I don't have a problem with a sole advertiser on this forum.
I see some ads already on the site (just look up) and it doesn't bother me.
But I would suggest 2 conditions.
1- Do not prevent any memeber poster from mentioning any other company or product in their threads.
2- Do so on a trial basis (not longterm, to do an interim assessment and have member feedback as to how it is working out for us)

Webmaster--Remember, it is your site. Paying bills is always first.

Most of us probably use the merchant anyways.

Point of clarification:
Banner ads will remain for any advertiser.

This would not just be an additional advertiser here. It would be another site that was part of the IT site or linked in such a way as to appear to be part of this site.

This is still all very tentative. There are a number of issues that could be roadblocks.

As long as other vendors are able to advertise and be discussed (Like the $110 harness topic) then I don't think it would be a bad thing. There are other forums where you can't say a thing about companies that don't advertise on the site. If you do, the post or topic is deleted.

Hey, maybe you can work a deal with the company to pay for a search feature that works (taking a harmless jab at the webmaster). http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif

Would this mean that areas of the website such as pictures and what not would be updated... I understand the time it takes to update that stuff, but it would be cool if you are actually going to have a staff more dedicated to the site that they can update those areas... I think at this point the only area that I view is the forums cause the rest of it is out of date (not bad though, I just have already scene it a million times http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif )

I also hope that woe would still be able to refer someone to places that might have better deals, although I would not expect anyone to "bash" the business associated with improvedtouring.com

I also don't like pop up adds http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif
