Been gone for awhile...I see the wheel rules and brake rules are changed this year. What 15" wheels are you using now? Brakes are an upgrade from the late 80's 4 and 6-cylinder cars?

Knowing the type and year of car would help. DICK

Duh...Jon. Yeah, I meant to include that, but I.....forgot. '80 Mustang in ITB.

In researching the 2.3 '79-'93 Mustang for prod, I noticed the ITB spec line was missing a lot of stuff. I wrote a separate letter from my prod request to update the spec line with the proper info.

A quick summary:

15" wheels were offered in last couple years. Not to mention the earlier TRX wheels that were close to 15" (wrote that letter a while back).

The 10" brakes came on cars beginning in 1982.

Trans ratios didn't reflect the 6 different ones I found over the 14 years of 2.3 cars.

Compression ratio went to 9.5 in 1985.

A related question. Will 13" wheels, as offered on the early cars, fit over the larger brakes? I assume that's when 14" wheels became standard. Anyone actually running the small brakes?

Tim.

I have an '87 Fox with the larger brakes, and recently bought the 13X6 Spun Steel wheels for it. We test-fitted one with tires before ordering, and there was NO clearance problems.

I have yet to run them on the car competitively, but forsee no problems. If you want to know the exact part number, write me at [email protected] and I will get back to you.

Good racing. Bill

The aftermarket wheels may fit, but you will have problems with stock type wheels. The change to the larger diameter wheels was in part due to the V8 cars getting the bigger brakes, which will not fit under a 14 inch wheel. As to some of the other stuff, it should be listed. I'm running legal, and have the shop manual to prove an errors and omissions case should one ever come up regarding brake diameter or anything else. However, I'd bet most of my competitors would not push the issue since I have the 93 manual on CD-Rom, print, and about three other year's books on hand at any race (in addition to the factory original stickers on parts that are of "questionable" origin!)

Not much tech, but hey, it's late http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif I'll have #93 ready for this weekend at Moroso, fixed the FPR failure that cost me at Sebring (try running a EFI car with only 20psi and see how fast you don't go!)

Oh, the tech... http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

If you've got a 1980 (or any pre-85) with the tiny brakes and want to swap, you need to change the spindles as well. The caliper mounts are different, and they don't interchange. BTDT. Just FYI to get the whole shooting match at the U-pull, FWIW.

HTH.
