Im wondering? The 91-96 1.9L GT's are ITA right?
Also....I know you can get some aftermarket parts for these, but can you get most things you need to go racing like good racing struts, camber plates,I guess I mean ready made racey stuff?
And is there for any reason, one of these years (91-96)that would be better than another for racing?

Doug, the later Escorts are ITA and are basically a Mazda Protege (nice article in GRM this month on both in autox). There is a decent amount of aftermarket parts available through Mazdaspeed and some other parts places. Struts are available too. Unfortunately they are not real competetive, at least I've not yet seen one that shows any promise. I think there was one in the SE region that was pretty good and I think it was bought by Ted Deronne from Detroit ???? Don't know much else about them.

Doug--It is actually a 1.8 Mazda twin cam in those cars.

I'm not sure if they expanded the spec line for any years of that car beyond 1991.

We all know that the 92-96 are the same as the 91, but it's a situation like your 1990 B Escort. Someone has (had) to ask to update.

Cheers.

Is there any one year between 91-96 that would be better suited(suspention wise, engine wise, weight wise)for IT racing? Or is evrything on these years vertually the same?

Doug, to my knowledge 91 to 96 Escort GT's share the same basic powertrain (1.8l doch/ 5 spd). No real suspension difference (all four wheel independent). The only differences I have seen is on exterior clading and interior trim.

Doug,

I know I saw someone post something about mix-matching 91 -96 EGT parts to build an ITA car. I just can't remember if it was the yahoogroup or the ERDT forum. Maybe Diane can remember?
Have you joined these groups? If not, email me directly [email protected] & I'll send you links.

I was supposed to write up something to send to the SCCA about including the EGT up to 96 & the LX-E, Tracer LTS. I got lazy over the Winter. My bad.

I only remember someone in the last couple of weeks asking about building an ITA car then we got into the facilities discussion. (on yahoo) But I don't think that's who you meant.

Who says winter is over? We just got 8-10" today. http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/tongue.gif
