I just got an 89 Escort GT and want to check for scanner codes. Where is the connection port? Also where is the ECU box located and what sources are available for remapping.

Thanks,
Rick

The port is near the passenger strut tower.

I found the port and checked for codes...none present. But where is the EEC-IV box located? I'm already done stripping out the interior except for the dash, so I'm assuming it must be under the dash.

Should be under the dash (rather, attached to firewall--inside) on the driver's side.

About a 40 pin socket plugs into the box (about6X8X2inches).

Good luck.

I have a 90 GT. Mines is located behind the dash left of the steering column. Sort of behind the headlight switch.

What kind of codes are you looking for? Also....how would you go about remapping to gain any performance? I ask out of my own ignorance.

Doug I've fought the reprogram thing to death and nobody makes a chip for it and nobody reprograms it. It also has a 7000 rpm limiter that i cant get rid of. if u find out how let me know. Stroube

I think I have reach that 7000 rpm limiter a few times.

Nope--Not into EFI and ECU(s); my cars are carburetted.

I will say that your motor cannot safely turn anything over 6500rpm on a consistent, continuous basis since it has hydraulic lifters (supposed to anyway)and an under-square bore/stroke relationship.

The 1.6 will turn more, but it is also limited by the lifters.

You are also not making power at those hi revs.

Most certainly not! http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/frown.gif

But I'm still trying to figure the back side of Lime Rock out. It's either wind the car way out and hit 4th after the uphill, take 4th on No Name and hold it (which loses me about 3mph on the uphill), or take 4th on No Name and back to 3rd as a brake for the bottom of the uphill.

Maybe once I get a little more confidence I will find I don't need to "brake" as much for that last turn and 4th will be fine. http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/confused.gif
