Does anybody out there know how to defeat the high speed ignition cutoff, without buying a JW computer. I tried disconnecting the speed sensor on the transmission, but that just made it cutoff at 4500 RPM no matter what speed. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Cheap fix is to get an ECU from an automatic car. No speed limter rev limiter is the same though.

I have a stock ECU with speed limiter removed already. I am moving to E Prod so I won't need it.

I would just do this instead. Using an auto ecu is pointless.

Everything I've ever read or heard has indicated this mod doesn't work on the S13 with the SOHC engine (read some of the other comments attached to the link above). Take Bill up on his offer, he's a good guy and will give you a very fair price on the ecu.

Yes, its pointless if you want a higher rev limit and a performance fuel map. But the question was about an easy cheap method. Most of those wiring mods never work the way they say. I have personally used the auto ecu in several street cars including my own convertable and know it works. You can find auto ECU's on ebay for about 40 bucks. Pretty cheap if you you ask me.

Yeah, that link will not work... I tried that while at the track. Also, there is not 4th gear switch, only 5th. I'm going to buy an auto computer from a junkyard for $30.
Thanks everyone

You should also be careful about your total advance timing when using the auto-ecu.

[highjack mode] Hey Jason, I wanted to ask someone who runs a 240SX at Summit Point - what gears are you (or Kirk) running, and where does that put you rpm-wise at the end of the straight? The reason I'm asking is I picked up a 4.63 r&p recently, and was just wondering if that was too low for SP.

Thanks
Earl

I haven't tried anything that tall. It depends on what gears you want to use - 2,3,4 then something a little higher (lower numerically) than stock (4.08) would be good. If you want 3,4,5 then something a little taller than stock, but the 4.08 isn't too bad - pulls around 5000 at the end of the straight depending on how good a run out of 10 you get. It's all compromises, you run out of top end on the front if you get a tall gear that pulls for the back of the track. I would think your 4.63 might be to tall for the front straight. I'm on very old hard tires, so my frame of reference isn't as fast as it could be.

Jason.

Careful about timing in what way??
Do I want it to advance farther or less?

The auto ecu will have a greater total advance than the 5spd ecu when set according to the factory method at idle. If you aren't careful about the total advance you'll burn pistons.
