View Full Version : The B13s Are Back, Baby! (maybe)

So, read Fastrack (or the rest of the board)? Seems SCCA has finally opened up to the idea of moving the B13s to ITA. It's only a recommendation at this point, but I suspect the BoD will approve the CRBs recommendations.

Yes.

So, now that we can run the SR20DE-powered B13s in ITA, who's the next batter? I'm aware of about half a dozen ITS B13s out there, all on the East Coast. If you're interested then 2004 is your development year. It's time we get off our collective duffs and go after the Honduh crowd.

The cars that I'm aware of are:

- Greg Amy, NER, 1992 Nissan NX2000
- Joe Dimino, PA, SE-R
- Pat Griffith, WDCR, SE-R
- Charlie Boehly, WDCR(?), NX (for sale)
- Chris Tier, NER, SE-R
- Lee Koloszyc, WDCR(?), NX
- Tim Rogers, Atlanta, building an NX

Who am I missing? Who else is out there with an ITS-spec B13? Let us know. We have a private list on Yahoo for improving the breed, feel free to contact us for approval to join:

Honda drivers need not apply http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

Enjoy the ride...

Bruce Hearn. We're going to put a cage in his car as soon as we are through with the cage for my 944. We get the bender back Easter weekend. I hope to install the cage the following weekend in my car and hopefully Bruce's cage the weekend after that. We already have the tubing.

Bruce is in the process of sourcing his safety gear.

So would this then move the GA16 powered B13's into ITB by default? That would be a killer car in a very competitive class...

Bob, that didn't get addressed much, although it needs to be obviously. It did come up for some conversation, but got neglected due to a large agenda. I'm sure it will come up and actually, I would suggest a letter to the CRB to make sure it's on the agenda.

I wouldn't necessarily assume it would be at the same weight in B. I'm sure we would look at that carefully. I'm not saying it would be either, but I couldn't tell you at this time.

Hey GregA, Don't forget me down here in Florida. One current 1992 ITS SE-R. Excited about the possible move to ITA.

Strong, reliable rumors have us APPROVED to ITA. Looks like they'll be some non-240 forum traffic here!

Any updates on this?

What about the NX2000?

Doublecheck your Fastrack, because I'm pretty sure we suggested these get moved as well...

So many cars, so many changes, such poor short-term memory! http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

It would have made sense for these to go as well, so I'm pretty sure that was the deal...

Good Luck and Have FUN!!

The NX2000 was indeed included at a slightly higher weight than the SE-R.

don't know enough about B13's but wouldn't the JDM counterpart motor make that car illegal? As well as the cams? Please enlighten. It's a nice car at a great price. I'd hate to have to swap in a new motor. Cams aren't that big a deal if they're the only thing illegal.

not to mention the brakes (not a big deal), power steering, flywheel, etc? I believe they're all illegal, right?

The existence of a JDM engine would not, in and of itself, be IT-legal. There are about 3 or 4 different versions of the JDM SR20DE engine offered in Japan, *most* of which are the same engine as the US-spec. The reason that many of these cars end up with "JDM" engines is that they are quite plentiful; good used 30K miles JDM engines can be had for $500 delivered.

The things on this car that would be illegal for IT, and would need to be replaced, are:

- carbon fiber roof plug. You'll have to replace that with steel (but you could no doubt sell the CF one for the same cost, if not a profit.)
- NX2000 brakes. You'll have to re-install the SE-R brakes, which are slightly smaller. However, the NX brakes can be sold for double what you could get a good set of SE-Rs for. The SE-R crowd loves 'em.
- JWT camshafts. Easily sold for a hefty profit.
- Unorthodox racing pulley set, easily sold.
- Flywheel. Ditto.
- NisMo motor mounts. Ditto.
- Gotta reinstall power steering (natch).

I'd suggest inquiring which JDM engine got installed. If it's not the 9.5:1 engine you may have to swap it out. Add some elbow grease and some parts swapping, and you'll have a hell of a buy and a *very* competitive ITA car (watch for the red blurr in '05...)

Sorry, nothing new to really add here.
It's just that all these 240 threads in the Nissan section are making my head hurt. http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif
