i am familiar with this car. it spun coming out of 10 at summit. tagged the inside wall with the front end. may be rebuildable, if it is, the cage alone would be worth it. mitch piper built a beautiful cage in this car.

What's the rear in it (LSD, size, ratio)? A good friend in CT just picked up a sweet '84 e30 with a bum camshaft. Neither of us knows too much about BMWs, yet... and I don't even have my ITCS with me this week. How many of the parts from the wrecked '89 could be used on the '84? How about for an IT build? Is there an IT spec line that includes both '84 and '89? What from the '89 wouldn't fly on the '84 shell? TIA.

None!!!
To different spec lines, in fact, to different classes. The 325i wasn't produced until 87. The 84 was either a 318 ITB or a 325, 325e ITA.

Thanks. I know what a "325e" is (different economy-type engine), but what's the difference between a "325" and a "325i"? I thought the "i" just stood for "(fuel) injection"...?

there are three variations of the "325" there are the "e" , the plain vanila 325, and the "i". as said, the "i" was not available 'till '87.

the earlier "e" cars were 6 cylinder, 5 bearing camshaft, small intake/port/exhaust/2.5 (i think) t about 122hp. the plain vanila "325" was, i think, available in 86-87 and was an "e" bottom end (2.7) with the "i" big valve/port head but the smaller "e" intake and was rated at about 128hp. the "i" was the big valve/port/exhaust/7 bearing cam motor making 168 hp. the GCR specs two of the cars, the 325 as an ITA car with 2.7 motor only but with small valve head, and the "i" as ITS.
confusing????

325,325e,325es (2.7) are all the same car the letters after are just trim levels
The 325,325e,325es all have a 2.7 liter crank the diff. being that the ETA engine has a 81mm crank and 84 mm bore.
To as the "I" engines have a 74mm crank and 84mm bore

the ETA engines all had the same head and block unless it's an 88 and then it changes up a little..... the 88 has lower compression but better flow for a little increase in horsepower....

the real kicker is the ETA's way of developing torque... with chip and free flow exhaust it will crank out 210 ft lbs

it only has a usable rpm though of up to about 5300 due to the ETA cam won't produce anymore.....

I'm building an ITa 325e right now and I just ordered a 3.73lsd rear and a few other bit's....

want to know something even cooler is that every one uses the 524td crank for the "I" engine and then bores it out to have a 2.7l "I" powerhouse,.... but I just found a "Lincoln Mark XII" with a BMW turbo diesel that has a forged 81mm(2.7l) crank....

these cars can be quite a trip
