What muffler do others use on LRP to quiet thier cars down a little?

Right now the 2.5L I6 (m50) has kraftswerk headers, and 3" straight back to a borla muffler.

This is a world challenge spec setup and I believe was as is at lrp this season, however I am not sure if it was muffled extra for the event.

Any suggestions would be great. TIA

I suppose the key question is what sound limit are you trying to hit?

I've got similar headers/motor...and with a Bimmerworld muffler (with center resonator), it seems to get in under 92 db (with a side deflector if needed) at Laguna.

OK.

With a suggestion from a friend who used to be the Crew chief for this car back in the day when mcmillan just built it and ran it, he said to just run a 30 degree turndown on the muffler.

With kromerkraft headers you don't want any added restrictions after the headers, thats how they are designed. So having resonators and whatnot is not the best for HP, and this small turndown might be just enough to pass.

If you run at Laguna (often 92, and even 90 db), you have to have both a resonator and muffler (and potentially a directed tip!).

Good thing I only drive on the east coast http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

Feel free to drop by the west coast. The tracks are worth the effort. You can easily rent a SM for the weekend at any SCCA race.

At Laguna, the limit isn't usually 92 with SCCA (mostly ~103), but you have to be prepared for it. But most driving schools only get 92.

Update: After talking with a tech at Borla, I am going to use the Sportsman round resonator, 15" long, 5"diameter, 3" in/out, SS of course, straight through, $93 and it should provide all the lower dB I need.
