I'm looking to remove the stock exhaust and install a race exhaust on my 325is. Any suggestions on design, parts and removal/installation tips would be appreciated.

Build your own; I use the "cut and paste" method (Buy a bunch of straight lengths and "U-Bends" in your diameter of choice; tack up the pieces (use a pipe cutter to cut them)to fit the tunnel; drop and weld completely). A lot of work but kind of fun!

hi ray,
mine has about 3ft total of tubing and a dynomax bullet. exits in a turn down in front of the diff under the car. very simple and cheap.

consistently 97db wot.

Any suggestion on a header and muffler manufacturer? Or where to buy at a decent price?

Ray. When I used to have my E-30 I started of with Stahl headers, they worked fine but they hung down kind of low, I eventually got tired of fixing them and changed to Supersprints they are a much tidier fit and gave me a lot more ground clearence, I couldn't tell any difference in lap times, so I would recommend the Supersprints, check with BMP. I also used a Flowmaster muffler.

I can vouch for the Stahl header being low. When I had my E30 racer, I had to weld a skid plate on the collector to keep it from getting beat up. I never tried a Supersprint on the E30, but the SP on my E36 is much higher and is not the first thing to hit when you clip a curb or moving it on or off a trailer.

2 years ago I bought a MSDS http://www.msdsinc.com/ header and I love it. It's actually a shorty set. I then had a 2 into 1 piece fabricated at the local muffler shop and pieced the rest of the exhaust together. I run an unmuffled exhaust on my 89 325is and get db reading of 98.(I have to turn the 45 degree elbow at the end of the exhaust away from sound control)
